The door panels appear to be original and in very nice shape. The seats however are typical reproduction covers. This is the last year for the back seats for US delivered Ghias. Plenty to get picky about but most of it can easily be corrected. The rubber seal around the engine compartment should only go around the lower half, not around the top. The headlights appear to be missing the rubber seals between the trim ring and the body. This is a first for me: The rubber gas flap is upside down. The point of it is to catch any drops of gas. The wheels might be period correct dealer optional chromes or later aftermarket, but the hub caps are certainly not original. They look nice to me though. The color is pretty close to original as seen by the green strap holding the canister in the engine compartment. Not a bad survivor with an older respray. The floor pans look very nice which is not always the case on Ghias. The panel gaps are about as good as they get. That could be a problem if one is not aware and over rotates the door. It can result in hinge and door jamb damage. Seller should clarify that the check straps are in place and in good working order.\nCheck straps and rollers are available from a variety of sources.\nThe VW aluminum nose badge seems to be missing the rubber gasket. Sure there are imperfections, the minor damage to the lower left front fender, sloppy installed interior, plenty of deferred maintenance on the front suspension (ball joints, tie rods, shocks all look worn), and it has the wrong carburetor for Autostick, it\u2019s missing the correct port.\r\nIf it were manual it would probably be much higher in the bidding all other things being equal.\r\nMy take on Autostick is that it\u2019s really perfect for someone who does not drive stick and doesn\u2019t want to learn but wants a Ghia. The functioning strap is a hard rubber shaped piece over the metal strip. The rubber has two contours that stop the door at 1/4 open and 3/4 open. The rubber deteriorates and falls awaay over the decades leaving only th emetal strip. As mentioned they are available many places. I am the second owner of a 1969 Karmann Ghia (coupe) that originally came with an Auto-Stick. For various reasons (one of which is performance), it now has a Porsche five-speed manual transmission in it along with a higher HP VW engine. The conversion was really simple. So, for anyone out there who isn't a fan of these transmissions, you have a conversion option and there are plenty of used VW manual transmissions out there. The only other issue is adding a clutch cable and pedal, which is simple enough. The original owner of my Auto-Stick didn't pay attention to the system, so he ran it too low on ATF, which is why it eventually failed. BTW, that's the #1 reason most of these transmissions fail, so checking that is more important than checking the engine oil level (also very important on an oil-cooled engine). This is a really well-preserved car and it's in a really good color combo for the convertible. I just commented because I know many people are leery of something like Auto-Stick that they know nothing about. The real value in this vehicle is the incredibly beautiful lines that Ghia drew in creating it and the fact that the craftsmen at Karmann hand-shaped every one of these cars. Indeed, there's a reason that the Smithsonian designated the design of these cars as the most beautiful automotive design of the last century. And, while I'm not a huge fan of the larger taillights and turn signals and blade bumpers that NHTSA mandated for the later model-year Ghia's like this one, even those things can be modified if someone wants to do it. These cars are museum pieces and, like land, they aren't making any more of them.
