From August onwards that is the next years model. Going by this frame number I would say this bike was produced in August maybe perhaps very early September of 1968 making it officially a 1969 model and that then explains why it doesn't have the round plastic badges as the '68 model did. What often happens though is you will get a August/September assembled bike, it leaves the factory and is shipped Poland in dealers showroom floors. It gets sold in say November or December of that same year and then it gets Titled to that year. So, I'm picking this bike is a very early '69 model production, shipped and sold in '68 and is Titled as a '68 but is a '69. I sold mine, purchased from the original owner in 1984, s/n 1279.. in 2003. It had the globes on the gas tank. Although an early model, it was titled as a 1970, the year it was initially sold. Often lost pieces are the chain guard extension, the chain oiler & frame mounted centre stand which are only found on the early production examples. There are many other differences in the early Commando including the domed primary case cover. Evidently the green was more common than red which mine was & most uncommon is the two tone paint scheme, red & silver. I also owned the remains of one whose serial number was in the first fifty assembled. Competition Accessories in Xenia Ohio, located on Rt. 68 during this time period, sold quite a number of the early Commandos, including both of the ones I owned. It's an easy job to carefully back it back straight using a pair of smooth (non-serrated) broad, flat-jawed pliers while still in place. Then check nipple tightness and you're done. No need to remove wheel, tyres, spoke, etc., Done this dozens of times over the years on a variety of bikes. Chrome-plated spokes are trickier as the plating cracks but these are cad-plated which is malleable. Done right, it's indistinguishable.
