And this one is a gem, stunning. \r\nI own a 39 one ton, complete opposite to this one as mine shows every battle scar from 85 years of use as a shop truck and farm truck, with the original graphics/logos from the 40\u2019s ( Mercury/Lincoln/Meteor above the windshield, company name, proprietor, and farm implements on the doors, and AMA logo on the cab corners). It\u2019s rust free and all complete, a gem as well. Anyway, my VIN is on the top side of the drivers frame rail, near the front crossmember. It\u2019s a five point star, capital letter R, 4 numbers and another star. The truck was originally titled in West Virginia, where I bought it from a family who had owned the truck for decades. The WV VIN is the same VIN as the one on the Virginia title. Because I have been unable to located a stamped VIN, I have asked for help from the State of Virginia which will send an expert to help locate the original VIN, and if they too can't find it, they will issue a metal plate with the same VIN or a new VIN, to be placed on the truck. It is not unusual for the '18' to be omitted from titles since it was common to Fords in that era. The numbers that you see on your title are in line with '39 Fords, less the 18. \r\nThe serial number was stamped in three places on the frame, only one is visible with the body on the frame. It is located on the top of the frame, behind the front crossmember and ahead of the firewall. On a '39 the horns are in the way. If the numbers are not easily visible, I suggest that you use lacquer thinner or Goof Off to remove the paint in that area. Do not use a wire brush or a grinder, they will damage the numbers. When you get under the paint you will find a star, then 18, a hyphen, then the numbers shown above and lastly another star. Ford often used a capital I (eye) in place of a 1, Roman Numeral style. \r\nPlease DO NOT have a government agency issue an assigned serial number. The prior owner had bolted a large klaxon horn to the frame, which was put back in the same position when the restoration work was done.
