At one event, he had qualified on the front row. The cars were staged in the false grid on the outside of the beginning of turn 1. There was a fence separating the crowds from the cars/drivers/crews. My wife is generally the opposite of star-struck - but she's the first to admit that as Paul aged, she liked him more and more. And she'd never really seen him up close. I'm tall, my wife, not so much. I could see over the crowd that Paul was making his way down the false grid toward his car with helmet in hand. I whisper to my wife that he's headed our way. As fate would have it, the crowd 'loosened up' and my wife was able to make her way to the fence just as Paul arrived at his car - right on the other side of where she was standing.
