I was happy to see the auction started on such a patriotic day celebrating the birth of our nation! \n\nI know a lot about a lot of different vehicles, and I present a lot of different vehicles here to the BAT community. Here is one I am relying on the BAT community to help me with. I am neophyte in the world of WWII Jeeps. I will do my best to answer any questions and as always, I am happy to show the Jeep to interested bidders. \n\nAs far as I am concerned, this is a really cool piece of history. The Jeep was restored by Duane Neifert sometime in the early to mid-2010\u2019s. Mr. Neifert, has since passed. Apparently, he was a very well-known restorer of these vehicles, working out of Hammons Garage in TX. In the gallery is the lengthy restoration list which came with the Jeep when my client acquired it several years ago. Since then, the Jeep has been used on holiday occasions. We left some of the mud on it in some of the photos to illustrate its continued, but sparing use. The Jeep was out for this past Memorial Day parade and around town that weekend. Obviously, we included shots of it cleaned up as well. \n\nA couple of concessions were made during the restoration for user friendliness. A keyed ignition, rather than the GI push button start, and an electric fuel pump for reliability. Other than that its true to the original design, as far as I know. \n\nThis Jeep starts every time. It runs and drives exactly as you would expect from an 80-year-old military utility vehicle. That is to say, its not the vehicle for a cross-country trip but its super cool around town, or for parade duty. Everything works as it should, we\u2019ve not encountered any issues or leaks. \n\n @Cornbinder I like your description, this is a motor pool unit, its not the Admiral\u2019s ride. Its done to a high level but its not overly restored such that you wouldn\u2019t want to use it. \n\n @OttoBozart I echo your sentiment as well. This is a utility designed and built (and restored) vehicle. The welds from 80 years ago are functional, no time was taken to make them pretty. \n\n @D518 There are some areas you can see where it looks like panels where put in but I cannot say for sure since I don\u2019t know what the original design was. What I can say for sure is that there are no rust areas anywhere we could find. I\u2019m the guy who climbed under the unit to take some of those pics. A lot of interesting notes on these\u2026. Henry Ford had to build these with parts interchangeability with the Willys. His early models said \u201cFORD\u201d on the back panel - and the Government told him he couldn\u2019t put his name on them. So, instead, all of the bolts on the GPWs had a script \u201cF\u201d on them. Some think the F didn\u2019t stand for Ford\u2026. Also, note the small square headlight below the regular beams. Those were for night driving in caravans - they don\u2019t light up much, but the Jeep in front of you can see you behind him. In addition, the two headlights flip over backward to aid in lighting the engine compartment when work needed to be done. We really enjoyed ours - parts are available and the metal is thick. These are fun. It was called the \"BRC\" (Bantam Reconnaissance Car). It met all requirements established by the government, whereas the prototypes from Ford and Willys did not meet all of the original specs. The government turned over all of the engineering drawings from Bantam to Ford and Willys anbd awarded them both contracts to build the Jeep based on the BRC. The government felt that the tiny Bantam car company could not build the Jeep in the numbers needed for the war. They gave Bantam a contract to build trailers. I'm fascinated by that stuff. My dad enlisted in the US Army in the late '60s, to avoid being drafted. He didn't go to Vietnam, but to Germany. There, nobody knew why he was sent, because they didn't need someone with his specialty, which was telephone system repair. So they sent him to work in the motor pool. He said they had a very efficient way of repainting jeeps. Masking tape and paper are too time consuming to apply. They'd just smear grease all over the windshield, lights, and anything else that should not have paint adhered to it. Then, spray the whole vehicle. Once the paint dries, go back and wipe off the grease. Voila! Henry's mindset was that he wasn't going to be stuck with \"defective parts\" from Willys being sent by the gov't to FoMoCo for replacement. Hence, Ford sourced components having an F-script mark. As for the tubs, EVERYBODY was doing that on War Dept. vehicles - Chevrolet, GMC, International, Diamond T, et al. Even early Willys tubs (and all with slat-grills) have WILLYS embossed on the back. The War Dept. issued a directive to all vehicle manufacturers in July 1942 to take off all identifying brands from the vehicles, allowing only the mfg. name on the data tag. The problem was driver's were cherry-picking vehicles they wanted to operate - and yes, some either did or did NOT want to drive a Ford jeep vs. a Willys.
