The oil pump runs off of a small \"hex\" rod that is inserted into the bottom of the Distributor Shaft.. Bad idea. The rod fits into the bottom of the D shaft at around 3/4 inch in. The high revolution of the Distributor shaft is essentially dragging the oil pump along...as it is pumping oil through the engine. Viscosity of oil is a \"drag\" on the small rod, and eventually the male/female connection wears out....and stops spinning the oil pump. This happened to me back in the day in the middle no where. Very light duty inline 6 found in early Falcons and Mercury Comets as well. Not Ford's best effort. Between the original 144 through the 200's there were millions produced. The motor is well balanced, have decent parts availability and can be updated to later configurations such as using Duratec ignition. I have a rebuilt 200 in my '62 EPup that came out of an '80's Mustang. Very reliable and plenty of torque for daily use. A lot of people swap V8s in these which creates many challenges. You absolutely must have a belly pan on these as it directs air to the radiator, otherwise overheating will be an issue. My biggest complaint with the small 6 is the integrated intake manifold or \"log\" head which limits carb choices. Recently an injection option has become available too. There's an annual gathering in the Pacific NW that can see 40 or more of them show up in various states condition from very rough but running to fully restored. Many have been converted to SBF V8's. A great fisrt restoration project as they are very simple vehicles, many repro parts are available, and some parts are shared with other Ford vehicles of the same era. Tailgates are particularly hard to find and this has one. The body mounts for the tailgate are missing however.
