The black speckles were most likely small pieces of tar/dirt that were easily removed, and were NOT in the paint. I think by far the best mod for these cars as a big and tall person is to adjust the steering column and add a spacer behind the steering wheel. The adjustment is free and easy (just a couple of bolts) and the spacer is cheap. It\u2019s puts the steering wheel where it belongs and helps the drivers posture. Grey, blue, green, white and so on are more rare colors but more desirable by todays color preferences. In the 80's it was all about a red Ferrari, red 911, red Vette, red Lambo. The \"notice me\" generation. When it comes to buying back your youth, you go for the one you had on the poster in your room. I've never seen a poster with a gray 80's dream car. \nThat being said, this car was an amazing buy. Sold 6 yrs ago for 60k, 36k spent on maintenance since and sold for 51K. That's near 50k cost of ownership for 6 years. Restoring the interior of a 308/328 doesn't come cheap, especially when you use a shop that knows what they are doing. I can always tell when a generic upholstery shop got their hands on one of these cars. The seats never look quite right. That said, the 308 we're talking about at $73K was really strong money given its last major service was in 2011. So to answer your question, it may have been a situation where the winner absolutely wanted that particular car no matter what it cost.\r\n\r\nIn the past 308's always trailed 328's in price by about 20-30% (very rough math). However that is not the case anymore. In the last 3-5 years I've seen very good 308's sell for more than an equivalent 328. Personally I prefer the 308 interior to the 328 because I like the old school knobs and buttons. But that's personal preference.\r\n\r\nOn a side note, I bid on this car but my limit was $48K. I figured I would easily spend $10K+ on the interior redoing the parcel shelf, seats, and center console. Plus there were some other areas I would have wanted to address (rust spot on the passenger side, missing tool kit, missing roof bag, headlight motors, etc).
