I think that you have bought a great car and that the 6 cyl @4.7 is actually a better engine for the car than the much heavier standard V8 - but it needs a manual box to make the most of it. There are two options (probably more). Best would be an original ZF 5 speed but there is a cheaper, newer alternative. I think I have found a ZF for sensible money but it's now no good to me - happy to put you in touch. I got someone who really knows his leather (I'll tell you privately who this is) and he thinks the tiredness is a fairly quick and inexpensive fix and he was pleased to see that the leather is most likely original. There were also some minor outstanding electrical issues according to RSW so I was also prepared for that - though they may have already been sorted. I had a plan of how to get this work done (in the UK) without busting the bank. Then I think you have a much more usable (read fun) and valuable car. I'm sure you know that RSW is the go-to place for Aston engine rebuilds and they remember the car and the build. That their rebuild is 8 years old is irrelevant given the mileage since. My sums say that you've got their work for $5,000 - $10,000 over the price of a car without it which is a bargain to say the least. I'm not a dealer and happy to help for the fun of it. I'm very jealous but I was already beyond my means when I stopped bidding!
