It was a rust free car and in very good/ excellent condition. A comment was made earlier about the single exhaust vs dual exhaust. The dual exhaust although is a distinct design element of late 70s and on BMWs the 1975 e12 530i (very rare in the US) chassis came with a single exhaust from the factory and we took the liberty of enhancing that attribute with a larger more pronounced exhaust that was provided to me by Chris.\r\n@MRZz as far as the build yes we took inspiration from the mid 70s e12 5 series MLE cars of the period. \r\nI originally built the car for myself to enjoy and the current owner convinced me to sell it. I still regret the decision. I do however get to enjoy sharing the details on the build and the enthusiasm that we put into it. \r\nAs we go along with the auction I will post different attributes on the build which are not apparent in pictures. Like a few commentators have pointed out, it is special to find a '75 e12, so no smog needed in CA and with the one off hood for that year and rare color makes for a great look. Some people aren't into the Golf paint, I should know, I own a Golf BMW but the people that do like it, really love it and appreciate the rarity of factory Golf paint on an e12 or any BMW for that matter. It is an iconic BMW color that really turns a sedan into a race car, you almost forget it has four doors. It was also a welcome distraction from the nervousness that laid ahead - I was short, shy, self conscious competing with my fellow male campers for the chance to talk to and, hopefully, awkwardly slow dance with a girl. I did not like summer camp.\r\n\r\nIt wasn't until years later did I realize that I was right - the cool BMWs were in fact early pre-facelift E12s like the one for sale here. I've only been in an E12 once, a high school friend's father was the original owner of a facelifted E12 that my friend took me for a ride in once and I really liked. Ever since then, I've wanted an E12.\r\n\r\nTwo decades after I spotted those \"unusual BMWs\", I'm now married, have a beautiful daughter who is approaching 5 months old, a house in the suburbs with a two car garage and ample parking. The differential is a side loader limited slip differential with expansion tank which is a period BMW Motorsport part that was refurbished by RIDS in Los Angeles. He no longer rebuilds diffs as he pretty much retired, and I dont have any pictures of the rebuilding process on any of the parts. As far as the the procedure of the diff rebuild he thoroughly inspects the ring and pinion gear and clutches are replaced as well as all seals. \r\nAs far as the engine I do not have any pictures of the rebuild as I purchased the rebuilt engine from PSI and the owner is a good friend of mine and is extremely reputable. The motor is a stock rebuilt S38B36. To add some additional support to the motor we will post compression test pics tomorrow. He did a ton of research, requesting road tests and other documents from BMW's PR department (all of that stuff should be in the records). He ordered the car from Wide World of Cars because the dealer in Manhattan was not good. The way he put it was Wide World of Cars were actually a Ferrari dealer that had a BMW franchise to sell cars to the wives of the people that bought the Ferraris. Anyway, he ordered Golf (unaware of another US-spec car in this color), black leather (very rare to find in an early E12), the \"mag wheels\" (turbines) and the limited slip diff (3.64). The only option he didn't go for was the big tool kit. It was a lot of money for a car then but he kept it a long time.
