Reapply ATF and stir with appropriate brush as indicted. Repeat as required.\r\nWash exterior with AJAX and elbow grease and perhaps the pressure washer with a wide spray nozzle. Allow to dry, feather remaining rust and flaking paint spots to taste.\r\nWash interior areas treated with ATF with dish soap. Allow to dry. Pressure wash undercarriage to taste and anticipation of possible near term mechanical needs. Prime interior and exterior as indicated to preserve and prep for paint to taste. Here is where I just can't keep myself from imaging this 912 in an ever so subtle desert camo pending a true restoration. Subtle, muted, soft tans, a light green and a light brown. A few splotches low and mostly existing tan on the upper body top and bonnet.\r\n\r\nToo Crazy for even me on several levels but have always thought the 912 5 sp was the best practical, almost sporty, evolution of the People's Car. Although I have had to reconsider when I drive my 1.8 MK7 TSI. Especially compared to my 69 Beetle which had much more in common with it's cousin, the 912. But I digress. If, (BIG IF), the drive train is truly viable then this would be the perfect candidate to putz on and then around the valley in whilst one considers the alternative levels of restoration and/or modification that might enable another 50 years or so enjoying this classic. But 1200 miles round trip with the trailer on the ball. So with acquisition, transportation, minor to major restoration costs, and I are not as young and dumb as I once was.
