Only 8000 R50's were made compared to 38,000 R75/5's so you don't see them around very much. It's much smoother and quieter that it's bigger brothers. Great for around town or country roads. I've never had any problems during my relationship with it. Tickle the carbs and push the starter button and off you go. I always use Sinclair ethanol free gas and Valvoline VR1 oil. Tires still show little use. The electrical upgrades make it run even smoother and the charge light only comes on rarely and goes right off with a twist of the throttle. In 1985 my father purchased a new BMW and I purchased his toaster tank from him.\r\n\r\nTo this date it still looks new; my father took excellent care of his vehicles. When I first purchased the toaster tank I wouldn't drive it; I felt it looked to ugly compared to some of my other bikes so I told my friends that ugly is only cool when its OLD. So I put it in my basement for years on display. Then once it was about 40 years old I started taking it to shows and it drew a lot of attention. I scoured the internet and found another curry fender. It had mudflap holes drilled into it but it wasn't faded so I clicked the \"Buy it Now\" button. It was only after getting it that I noticed the stripes were tape and not painted. I mounted it because it was shiny but I couldn't deal with the tape so I put the original back on. I'll include the imposter fender with the bike and let the new owner decide which one they want to run with. Peel the tape and get it striped and you're good to go. He said his customers were not fond of these newfangled chrome panel tanks, so he pulled them off and installed new non-chrome panel tanks for them. He gave me one of them to install on my minibike. You need to use the ones that have the diodes and heat sink assembly as one unit. The bulbs that use a pigtail for the 3 pin plug won't fit in the headlight bucket without touching something. I've never seen a LED bulb that fits into the stock reflector. I wouldn't be surprised if there is one but I bet you won't get the color temperature or wattage selection that the H4 type bulb offers. The rear bulb came from SuperBright LED. It's a replacement bulb that fits right into the standard socket.
