The driver\u2019s door tag would tell what color and trim it originally came with, I believe a deluxe Marty report would include a reprint of the original door tag. In 1970 the optional and rare, tonneau cover snaps were mounted on the bed rails. Although 8,976 1970 Ranchero 500\u2019s were made, they seem to be few and far between these days, in contrast to Ranchero GT\u2018s. The grill on this Ranchero is immaculate, which is quite unusual. Factory air with a 302 is also rare. This Ranchero does not have the original hood, someone replaced it with a GT hood. The front bench seat looks like it has been newly reupholstered with the correct vinyl pattern. Characteristic of most Rancheros and Torino's of the day, the front valance has a couple of wowies, this body component is very difficult to get it perfect. The trailer hitch appears to be period correct. Maybe the owner would like to fill in the remaining blanks by providing a deluxe Marti report. Fun fact, in 1970 customers could order any engine irrespective of model (i.e., Base, 500, GT, Squire) even the fire-breathing 429 SCJ. Nice car/truck!! The front end looked very much like this Ranchero, but the hood with scoop was gold. Taillights were different. Mine had a 50 pound spring on the clutch, which my new wife in February of 1971 hated. I paid $2900 new, sold it to an Army buddy in 1976 for $500. I bought my Ranchero in 1989 from a gal that rodded the heck out of it. Her husband told me he was worried she\u2019d wreck it and wanted her to sell it. It is an original four barrel 351 Cleveland, four speed w/Hurst shifter, bench seat, no air, has ps/pb. In 1990 I restored it. Well, my Ranchero didn\u2019t have any rust, this one has minor fender rust/surface corrosion here and there, not severe by any means. Yes, the GT hood looks like someone painted it with a rag at the end of a stick, but nothing that a little sandpaper can\u2019t cure. Here\u2019s what I do with Mack\u2019s Ranchero; first and foremost I would attack the engine, drivetrain and suspension and detail the undercarriage. I would keep everything stock. As for the bodywork, I would repair and spot primer all the body issues. I wouldn\u2019t worry about the interior, the front bench, door panels, and headliner look\njust fine. Yep, there are some cracks in the dash pad, no big deal. Then drive it, everybody talks about patina, well here you go. When budget permits, give it a nice paint job and do the interior.
