The speedometer/odometer unit in the car is not original to the car. The odometer that originally came with the car was not working plus the speedometer needle was erratic so I decided to replace it with a good one from a parts car that I had. The replacement odometer is showing 29K and, being 5 digits, I assume it has rolled over once. The original odometer had stopped but it is currently showing 98K. I would conservatively assume it has rolled over once but can\u2019t be sure of that. The Carfax stopped recording mileage back in 1998 at 75K. As stated in the ad, I have put maybe a 1000 miles on the car in the 5 years I have owned it. Yeah, I know, I should have driven it more but sometimes life gets in the way. The better answer is that my primary track car has been very reliable and my 928 is really my favorite driver right now. BTW my NC title does not show an odometer reading. Anyway, the original speedometer/odometer unit comes with the car. It has a stock engine management \"computer\" that has not been chipped, at least not by me. The only thing that could be a wild card is that here in NC you only have to have the equipment on the car. I guy that I know from the Rennlist forum that lives in CA and wrenches on 944's says the only difference he knows of that applies to CA for this model year is that it would have a heated O2 sensor and the required idle speed might be a little higher. The car has a new O2 sensor but it is the one wire variety, which is not heated. BTW a \"heated\" O2 sensor simply means that it has 3 wires, 2 of which are a switched 12V circuit that applies current to a small heater coil in the sensor and thus heats it up to operating temperature in the minimum possible time. I would certainly think one could be retrofitted if it came to that. I tell you what. If it meets the Reserve (that's a joke) and goes to a CA resident, I'll install the 3 wire O2 sensor into the car for the cost of the part. Here is what Wikipedia says: \"Leakage is given in wholly arbitrary percentages but these \u201cpercentages\u201d do not relate to any actual quantity or real dimension. The meaning of the readings is only relative to other tests done with the same tester design. Leak-down readings of up to 20% are usually acceptable. Leakages over 20% generally indicate internal repairs are required. Racing engines would be in the 1-10% range for top performance, although this number can vary. Ideally, a baseline number should be taken on a fresh engine and recorded. The same leakage tester, or the same leakage tester design, can be used to determine wear. \" So I think we can both be right on this one. The main leakage path on a sound engine is past the rings, particularly the gaps at the ends of the rings. If you are trying to get the last ounce of performance out of a race engine, you can do things like carefully grind the ends of special oversize rings to get the minimum possible gap.
