To start all SZ's English Connelly Vaumol leather smelled so rich and deep - much better amplified by the carpet/wool and that distinctive scent is gone upon entering any Phantom/Ghost, ect. to start. \r\n\r\nAlso, the silly BMW electronic noises from entrance/ignition, ect. remind me of a 5 series. Fit and finish is really nice, but the exterior proportions are not for me and while really impressive, a rather obnoxious appearance and one that the occupants cannot escape the general public. The SZ is at times painfully antique yet reliable, however the Phantom's I've experienced had never-ending electrical gremlins (especially the DHC) that some dealers won't or can't fix. If fixable at times are at very unreasonable rates and the lack of parts translates into a lack of basic systems redundancy due to overly-complex electrical systems potentially inhibiting basic vehicle function. Unfortunately, the Phantom seems them to be rather disposable compared to the old SZ. The later 20,000+ SZ are pretty good cars if the caretaker is dedicated with the help of a good shop and with parts in pretty good supply and still a good group of mechanics willing to work with them an enjoyable collectable RR/B. \r\n\r\nA Phantoms in 2040 will be what? With little or no BMW tech support many systems may not work or the cars unusable. \r\n\r\nI could go on, but i've just wasted 10 min in BaT la-la land. I do know my 97 MB S600 which had a 2nd owner from 2000-2014 who bought it CPO, and did plenty of maintenance. They sold it to someone who let it sit for 3 years and 300 miles, when I bought it. That long-term-owned and maintained-for-14-years car, in 3 years, when I found it, the suspension was sunk, was misfiring with CEL on, windows weren't rolling up all the way and sealing, and a lot of other \"little\" stuff. Ultimately, to get the car \"right,\" I dropped about $25k on it from purchase to 2019 or so. Granted, a lot of it was bringing it up to spec, and was not needed for reliability. Like every car we sell, the car went through our famous and unmatched \"Predelivery Commissioning\" program which ensures every single major and minor service is done, as well as any preventative maintenance is done. This is not only limited to mechanicals. All operational features and functions are not only inspected, but serviced. For example; Climate control & AC (in this case vacuumed down and recharged after leaks detected and repaired), all electric windows serviced, central locking, seats, everything right down to the most insignificant light bulb in the dash. Way too much to list here but everything done was/is entirely documented and forms part of the car's service history. The Predelivery Commissioning process brought the car to \"turn key\" status and, in fact, the new owner drove the car from our shop in Chicagoland, Illinois to Palm Springs, California without a single issue. About 6-12 months later, we had the car back here to carry out some service work including a warranty service, a part of which was a hydraulic accumulator that was not holding pressure. And to be sure, we changed both at no charge. Since then, the car has only travelled a small distance and the owner did maintenance work as needed and regular service. \r\nI did not think I would be using this forum to give our company a \"free plug\" but here we are.
