All the changes I made on the lighting are reversible with about an hours work. I left the original 6V wiring intact, and ran new wiring from the my 6/12V converter to all four corners. \r\n\r\nI do have all the pieces to completely redo the exhaust as well - excluding the muffler and tail pipe that I have already replaced. Once I took a close look I realized that the exhaust forward of the muffler is in good shape and didn't need to be replaced .... after I had already purchased a full replacement system!\r\n\r\nMost of my motoring was short trips - to local cars and coffee, etc. I did join an antique car tour in October 2020 where we visited several historical sights on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Geneva ran just fine for a total of about 60 miles with 6 separate stops. That was the longest drive I've done in her. The connector is not sealed, and the male pins/female receptacles are not the tightest of fits. Over decades of road and engine grease, grime, dust, water, vibration, etc the connections become intermittent and prone to failure. These problems are well known among Cord owners. Several years ago I had an intermittent shifting problem that I traced to the connector, so I replaced it with a modern automotive sealed 10-pin connector from WeatherPack and no more problems. I changed only the connector - still using the original wires, and I have the original connector should someone want to put it back in place. I also have a wiring diagram I made that details the connections. In this instance, the regulator is mounted to a thin steel plate along with four 6V relays which control the 12V power to low beams, high beams, tail lights, and brake lights. I tap each of those four original 6V wires to actuate their corresponding relay. Makes for a very clean and easily removable installation. There is a flasher for LED turn signals mounted on the plate as well. The plate is mounted to the underside of the dash out of view from anyone in the car (unless you are laying on the floor on your back). I'll post pictures of the converter plate/relays and my hand drawn wiring diagram. According to the previous owner, a Navy flight crew chief stationed in Pearl Harbor purchased this Cord Beverly and a Cord Cabriolet from Pacific Motors Limited at 1159 Kapiolani Blvd., Honolulu, Hawaii in 1937. The Cords remained in Hawaii through the attacks on Pearl Harbor until 1955 when they were shipped to San Diego by the flight chief, put on a flatbed trailer and brought to his home in Aberdeen SD, where they remained in a shed until 1961.\r\n\r\nIn 1961 Irl Good of LaMoure, ND purchased the Cord with the intent to restore it. When Irl Goode died in 1987 the Cord was still in progress, and stayed with the Goode family until 1995, when they sold the Cord to retired Major Leonard P. Redburn of the WWII Army Air Corp. \r\n\r\nMajor Redburn was an Aircraft Commander on a B-25 with the 82nd Bombardier Squadron, 12th Bomb Group during WWII. He was shot down over North Africa during an American bombing raid and was the sole survivor of his 5-man crew. Suffering major cuts and severe burns, he surrendered to the Nazis after hiding in a downed enemy aircraft fuselage for over 24 hours. Over the course of the next few months as a POW he eventually landed in the notorious German Stalag Luft III prison camp (The Great Escape movie was based on this camp's tragic history). He remained a POW for nearly 32 months before being liberated.\r\n\r\nIn 1995 Major Redburn brought Geneva to his home in Missouri and slowly began to finish the restoration started by Irl Good. One of the most remarkable stories of the Cord centers on Major Redburn\u2019s sewing skills, acquired during his 32 months of work detail as a PoW. During his restoration efforts, Major Redburn did Geneva\u2019s re-upholstery work himself on a sewing machine in the basement of his home in Baldwin, Missouri. Unfortunately, Major Redburn passed away in 2006, leaving his family the car. They commissioned Doug Jenkins Restorations to finalize the restoration and take it to Auburn in 2009 to be sold at auction.\r\n\r\nIn 2009, the Cord was purchased by a collector who kept it through May 2016. It seems the paint/skim coat along that edge are lifting off. That is the only area of the body on which that is happening. Perhaps poor paint prep on that portion of that panel? The underlying metal is free of rust, so that's not the culprit. I had considered getting that panel repainted, as it is relatively small and with a bit of work can be removed (I think one needs to remove the fender and then that panel unbolts). But I never did. It was one of our first Cord\u2019s and we loved it dearly. It was (and I\u2019m sure is still) an honest, well sorted and great driving example of the marquee. We only sold the car because over the years we collected and still own several Cord\u2019s. \n\nAs part of its story I must complete (and correct) some details about Jack @jonathan_b_richards. He is truly an incredible man and lover of Cord\u2019s. He planned to come with Peter to pick the car up to drive it back to St Louis as @VLM states. However, for whatever reason Peter could not come. So Jack shows up alone eager for his adventure. \n\nWhile a very fit and healthy man, like many of us that love these 1930\u2019s cars, the moniker of \u201cyoung\u201d no longer applies. At no point did he display any doubt about the Cord\u2019s ability to make the trip or his knowledge to deal with any challenges that might arise on his 1500 mile journey of adventure in the summer heat of the Arizona and New Mexico desert. \n\nAfter a complete review of the car by my mechanic (tires, oil, tune, etc) and with some concern on our part (but none on Jack\u2019s) he was ready for departure. Armed only with multiple jugs of water, a flip phone, a change of clothes and his confidence based on years of experience he set off into the 106 degree heat of the mid morning. I\u2019m not sure I breathed again until after 3 calls and 3 days later I knew he was safely in St Louis. But in that call, I know that I was talking to a happy and satisfied man. \n\nLive long and happily, Jack. \n\nPS. It is easy to see why one of the previous owners bought it, hopped in it, and drove it from Arizona to Missouri. And he was eighty when he did that!\r\n\r\nIt's an absolute peach of a car- beautifully turned out in the original color, which suits it admirably, and bearing that indefinable aura of a car which has always been kept up AND had good care, never neglected. The stories around it are the best kind- written by loving owners who enjoyed it, cared for it, and took the trouble to pass it along to like minded folks who would continue to do exactly the same. \r\n\r\nNo matter what else happens to me this week, this will be the high point.
