I know a guy putting a 4.2L Jaguar engine in an MGB right now. Should go nicely. He already owns one with a Rover V8. I have a TD, same color and interior. The strip to bare metal and repaint cost about $7500 four years ago. use that for a base. A top and side curtains can be purchased from a number of sources, but be prepared to spend money. The V8-60 changes the character of the car. The big reason for doing this back in the cark ages was becasue it was easy to ruin an XPAG engine. Treated well, they last a long time. Scream around at top speed for hours on end and you will kill the little thing. Like the V8-60, the XPAG is a late 1930's design. The gear boxes are more fragile than the engines. I rebuilt mine using NOS and good used parts, and it still cost $800 with me doing all the work. Treat the gearbox with extra care with all that additional torque. Better yet, invest the $3500 and put in a modern 5-speed. many of my TD owning friends are doing this because it makes for an easier to drive car and is a lot more reliable. Plus, it will handle more torque. There are also ways to increase the horsepower of an XPAG engine besides replacing it. I port and polished the head, raised the compression and added a roller lifter camshaft? The Ford V8 60 was the most practical conversion in that era. I never heard of problems using the TD transmission. In the late 50s I saw a few small block Chevrolet swaps, but these were not as \"tidy\" as the V8 60s. My guess is that most of the V* 60 swaps produced about 100hp, which made them competitive with Austin Healeys and Triumphs in terms of power. V8 60s were also used in midget cars and small hydroplane racing boats. A friend had one in such a boat. He was consistently reving to 8,000+ . Overheating was an issue with these motors, more so than with the larger flatheads.
