The rack and pinion and the Mustang II type suspension was a huge upgrade over the famously weak and overly complicated original front end. I wouldn't let that scare me away from this one though. The TH350 is a great trans. but I think an AOD would be a better choice, especially on extended trips. I also like the rally wheels, they look perfect on this car. My first attempt was not good enough to post. The rear-end noise is more noticeable when cold. It quiets down after a few minutes, but is still there. It has never kept me from taking the car 70 or 100 miles from home, usually to the vintage car races or to a windsurfing launch spot. It gets lots of oohs and aahs wherever it goes. \n\n@PDXBryan - I, too, had dreams of a 5-speed conversion and a complete front-end kit (Alston Chassisworks?) when I bought the car, but the car seemed better suited to being a cruiser. And modern station wagons with real power showed up. The Nova has plenty of power for everyday fun and has been comfy for cruising all over northern California. With its suspension upgrades, the car handles surprisingly well. It's flat and controlled, not floaty. In the end, I don't want to make old cars into something radically different from their original nature. Improvements, sure. Complete change of character, not for me.\n\n@EJPcar - Please take a close look at the undercarriage photos to allay any rust concerns. There are two complete sets of under-car pix, one with flash and one without. You should find there's no rust underneath other than slight surface oxidation by the fuel tank. That's why I bought this car shortly after buying a different one in Long Beach. This one had lived its first life in Arizona, been dragged to Indiana for revitalization, and the I brought it to northern California.\n\n@RitchieR - I'm right there with you: I was 12 when this car was made. The motor does indeed leak oil. It's a first-gen small-block Chevy motor and they all do to some extent. It leaks ATF, too. Cpp makes a nice mini front end kit that's cheaper than going to a Mustang ii and replaces the lower control arm and fixes the caster/camber problem these had. These are not land yachts and are actually quite a perfect medium/small size and relatively light weight. I just upgraded the rear end in my Nova a month ago and its sitting outside my shop. I live in Southern Oregon and if the new owner wants it they can have it. From my understanding 1965-1967 are all the same rear end. Brakes worked good, can't remember the gear ratio but 3:08 does sound close. It was a 194 6 cylinder with a 3 speed manual car. I\u2019ve owned several Novas over a period of 40+ years and loved all of them. My \u201963 wagon was a special favorite\u2026 even though it was just a 194/PG. I still own one \u201966 \u2013 a numbers-matching 327/350 (L79) 4-speed that I\u2019ve had since \u201972.\r\n\r\nNovas first came with V8 engines in 1964 \u2013 coupes, sedans & wagons. This was the 195 HP, 283 cubic inch version. The 327 was first available in 1965, again, across-the-board. Were there 4-speed wagons? Yes, but very few \u2013 although there are still a few that exist in their original form. I\u2019ve never seen a 4-speed factory Nova wagon from 1964 or 1965, but I know that they did exist in 1966.\r\n\r\nI\u2019m curious to know if the PO used a Nova block when the engine swap was done. From the looks of the oil filter, I\u2019d say not. And, that may well be the reason for the Turbo 350. Swapping a \u2018regular\u2019 SBC into a standard-shift (\u201967-and-earlier) Nova creates real problems with the clutch linkage. The pivot boss on the Nova blocks was re-located because of the way the Z-bar was positioned on the left-front \u2018sub-frame\u2019. The oil filter was also recessed into the Nova block to provide clearance so that the clutch linkage could pass under the filter.\r\n\r\nAs to updating the steering, Church Boys Racing sells a great kit that lets you \u2018bolt-in\u2019 a rack and pinion/disc brake set-up with much stronger A-arms without having to change out the sheetmetal \u2018dog house\u2019 for a tubular front structure. It\u2019s almost undetectable, even when the hood is raised. Some folks even autocross Novas so equipped!\r\n\r\nThe buyer may be better off rebuilding the rear axle. Most \u201967 wagons and high-performance coupes/sedans came with 12-bolt rear axles. These were also fitted to the \u201966 L79 cars. This is another Nova-only part as the axle is a couple of inches narrower between the rear brakes. By the way - the rally wheels chosen for this wagon are the perfect offset for these Novas! The color is called Copper Orange Mica, which describes it well. BaT has added a photo of the can to the gallery. It is PPG Deltron DBU 61774I, if I read it correctly. The front fenders' lean over the headlamps and the canted grill give these babies an appealing ready-to-go look, even for the wagon version.\n\nHad a 66 Nova wagon, white over tan, my first car, purchased in Terre Haute, Indiana for $500 in 1974. This one is a bit tender in all the normal places around the tailgate, tail lights and the tailgate itself. The floor pan, however, looks amazingly solid, and the offerings seem to show an appreciation for that. Another problem spot for rust is the fender surrounds of the headlamps, which appear to have been well attended to.\n\nMy 66 \"broke in half\" when the left hand half frame separated from the uni-body floor pan, due to the rust worms. The driver's seat settled on the parking brake cable, (nicely pictured here, by the way) bringing the vehicle to a safe halt. I slipped a 2 x 4 under the seat frame and hobbled it home, went right to a dealer's lot and bought a full size , eight passenger, 1978 Malibu wagon in dark metallic green over tan.
