Later 108s had a velour option in Europe which cost more than leather. The wood appears to have the correct sheen. The grille and front turn signals (placed incorrectly) are from a 1970 or later 280s. 250s had 'bullet' style indicators and a smaller grid insert to the grille. Both the front and rear bumpers appear once to have had overriders and their removal has left holes in the rubber trim. Euro cars rarely had overriders, were the bumpers replaced at some time? The tail light lenses are also from a later car. None of this takes away from the excellent mechanical work done here. A previous owner has updated the car to later US lights in place of the original european lights. Luckily, they didn\u2019t drill into the fenders to install the side markers. The headlights on this car were originally single piece glass lights that probably didn\u2019t pass state safety inspection decades ago. It would be easy to convert the car back to the original european headlights and some period-correct front fogs if a future owner wanted this look, it all just bolts up. Same for the all red tail lights\u2026 I have a few sets that could go with the car if the high bidder desires.\r\n\r\nAnd I\u2019d have to respectfully disagree about the placement of the turn signals. Compared to the 280SE 4.5 this car is parked next to in my garage right now, I don\u2019t see any significant different in location. Perhaps they appear offset due to the angle of some of the photos?\r\n\r\nAs for the bumper overriders, I\u2019m the guy who removed these. I remove them on all my cars. They were not factory installed, but a period accessory that is often poor quality. They don\u2019t match the original design of the car and don\u2019t belong, in my opinion. If I remember correctly, the ones off this car were made in the USA! I have several sets of these in storage, if the high bidder would like a set for the car, I can go through them a find the best ones. Its also possible to change the rubber on the bumper to hide the hole.\r\n\r\nI don\u2019t think the bumpers were changed\u2026 at least the rear bumper is the correct european version, with the license plate light integrated. In 1968 Mercedes changed to a single key design for these cars, so the same key fits everything (ignition, doors, glove box, gas cap). However, this car's trunk is fitted with an earlier 1967 lock which uses the small round key. And second, the car is titled as a 1967, not a 1968. This was common with cars delivered outside of the US market\u2026 it was built as a 1968 model in late 1967, so it was titled as a 1967 on import to the US.
