The hoses Bentley used in these tops did not prove very durable. When you look at photo #72 for this car you can see the white inner casings for the rear boot actuators. This is what original hoses look like when they start to come apart. \r\n\r\nThe actuators at the ends of the hoses were designed for a much smaller Mercedes top and they are over stressed on these cars. When we do hoses, we generally rebuild all the actuators. In addition we usually rebuild the mechanical linkages that lock the front of the top to the windshield header.\r\n\r\nWhile in theory this job can be done under $20k, in practice we have to pull a lot of the interior and that disassembly usually reveals other issues owners want to address - faded or shrunken leather, cracked wood, or other unrelated problems in the dash or seats. Consequently the bills for these repairs are generally more like $25.\r\n\r\nNote that is separate from the fabric, which is another 10-15k, but the fabric top in this car looks good and that has nothing whatsoever to do with the hydraulic problems. \r\n\r\nI've written a lot on this online and in the RROC magazine, the Flying Lady.\r\n\r\nAll these cars need tops done.
