In 1976 the Imperial was re-incarnated as the NYB. These sold well until being downsized. Photos #108 & # 109 show that nice rear seat headrest, I traveled in an NYB once, and was asleep within minutes of climbing into the backseat. \n\nThe 440 in my '67 really gets up and goes, but by 1978 they had been detuned a good bit. Wonder if \"re-tuning\" it now would perk up performance? I won't tell the emissions inspector if you don't. The paint on this looks original, as does the vinyl. \n\nThese are great, comfortable cruisers, and are always popular at car shows. Handling is better than same-year LIncolns or Cadillacs. Like a lot of long, black cars, there are always the \"mafia car\" comments from the philistines; so the new owner will need to be ready for that.\n\nKudos to the seller for these terrific photos. She holds the gas halfway down, determined. The RPM's slowly build. Four cylinders...five...now mostly eight with an occasional miss. Letting off the accelerator the engine...stays running. A quick stab on the gas to drop the fast idle and she drops the 727 into reverse. We back into the smoke filled street and head off the church. Amazing to think I am older now than she was then. The thermoquad sounded awesome despite the single exhaust. To get the most out of it I had to manually hold it longer in each gear as the 727 shifted way too early. I grew up on C body Chryslers. I had two '72 New Yorkers in high school and also a '78 Newport. Jumped one of the New Yorkers, busted the oil pan, towed it home and swapped pans with a spare from the parts bin. That car had a nice cam and dual exhaust with a big 850 CFM carb. They would pull through 120 and the speedo needle would disappear up into the dash. Why did I do that on junk tires? I was 17 and stupid. Got busted smoking out a church parking lot doing some donuts in my green New Yorker. That one was stock aside from a 3.23 posi rear end we swapped in. It would roll smoke till the cows came home. My dad drove a '74 New Yorker, which was way cleaner of an example than my two. His was a 75k mile car in mint condition. Took that one to Ohio to visit family.
