When you see two side-by-side, the difference in rear appearance is staggering, to me. I love the finned '61 car; but to my eye, the '62 300H (sans fins) is aesthetically a more pleasing automobile. That said, this '61 300G is simply stunning in every manner! \n\nIf you've never seen the instrument cluster lit up at night, it is true beauty. The soft green glow of the Electroluminescent dash is mesmerizing! The same lighting is used on the '66-'67 Chargers, and later the lighting was copied in the 2000s by several car makers. None pull it off like Chrysler!\n\nThe rumble of the Sonoflex mufflers is unique to Mopars of the '60s and early '70s. It's car music, without the need for a radio. Nowadays, everything sounds like a new Mustang, sad to say. Mopars just had THAT sound...delicious!\n\nThe seats were among the best and most supportive of the time in an American car. One of the nice things about Chryslers back then was the torsion-bar front suspension. Sorry to bore everyone, but I can't help recalling the time the heater core blew which had me jumping into the back seat to avoid the steaming coolant. A quick bypass and off we went. The gas gauge was also faulty and the car started to die one afternoon, and we thought if it died we'd never be able to push it to a gas station. So as it slows, we jump out to push it, and lo and behold it keeps going. Thankfully it finally quit and we caught up to it, and indeed got it to the gas station. Totally out of breath we put $5 in it and off we went. Thank goodness for straight Ohio roads. Finally Doug loved to put the car in neutral rev it up and drop into gear. Well that didn't bode well for the transmission, and all fwd gears were lost while on another outing. Luckily we were near my house and he drove it in reverse leaving it there for a couple of days. Late on a Sunday nite I hear him fire up the car, and he proceeded to drive it in reverse for miles to a transmission shop due to a lack of funds for towing. Fixed up again ... off we went. I've had the good fortune of owning several over the years including one factory air equipped convertible which is a pretty rare car. 337 convertibles built and an estimated 10% were factory air equipped. \r\n\r\nI have a few concerns about this car, seller, could you post a picture of the data plate? It is located at the top of the drivers door jamb about three feet above the vin tag. Also, do you have a club decode or copy of the IBM build card that you could post a picture of? \r\n\r\nIt looks to be an older cosmetic restoration (never frame off restored) and the underside was given copious amounts of sound deadener. Replacing the boat battery with a correct looking battery is a $300 dollar investment that will go a long way toward making the engine bay look better. A re-core of the radiator would do wonders as well.\r\n\r\nI think the seats are original. They are correct so if replaced, correct Gary Goers materials were used. Nice to see the luminescent gauges working as well. \r\n\r\nThings the data plate will tell us:\r\n\r\nWas the car originally black?\r\nWas the car originally equipped with air conditioning?\r\nWhen was the car built (important in that the decklid '300' indicates a post December, 60 build date).\r\n\r\nAs a rule, I try to not comment on auction car values but at nearly $100,000 bid, I would STRONGLY encourage inspection by ANY interested bidder before bidding further. Looked at a re-painted (red from white) hard top last year that was not in original interior fabric as this one has. That seller was asking $100k. The car is the most beautiful design that ever came out of Detroit.
