There is a base color, then the mid coat is a clear binder mixed with a pearl paste. The number of mid coats applied determines the final color. Then a clear as the third stage. My blue buell base coat is flat black, the mid coat over it gives it the blue color. So these years of buells the paint color is created, not mixed and applied. I have painted several myself. House of Colors brand paints and pearl paste are excellent from reproductions. I have several s2 body parts in this same yellow in my shop with the original paint. Looks very similar to the one here on the auction. It's brilliant when fresh, bright like a neon highlighter.\n\nThe trouble is, this neon midcoat is not UV stable and fades when exposed to light. An original paint bike will often still show some neon brilliance in unexposed areas like under the seat.\n\nThis is a beautiful bike, and my favorite of the tube frames. It doesn't get better than a '96 S1. '96s are the purest S1. \n\nNice bike. Outfitted with quality accessories.
