Thank you for viewing this wonderful 1979 BMW 733i. As is the case with any old BMW, there is a lot to cover in moving this shark nose into its new home. Below you\u2019ll find the details, history, and flaws of this Fjord Shark.\r\nTo start, the options, \u201cspecification\u201d, and details. This certain 733i is indeed a US Spec vehicle, meaning it\u2019s stamped with a serial number designated to US cars and originally had an emissions system/thermal reactors (that have long since been removed). As the listing includes, the Fjord Metallic paint is original, as are the Pacific Blue leather seats in the interior. The 4-Speed replacement has roughly 80,000 miles on it and shifts nicely. The M30B32 is original as well, showing good oil pressure, great compression figures, and feels tight. Overall, the car is original in the ways that matter, in my opinion. \r\nMoving onto the mechanical and functional side of things; the drivetrain. As mentioned, the engine is healthy and a compression test was done at roughly 153,000 miles showing the following figures:\r\n\r\nCylinder 1 - 170 PSI\r\nCylinder 2 - 170 PSI\r\nCylinder 3 - 180 PSI\r\nCylinder 4 - 180 PSI\r\nCylinder 5 - 180 PSI\r\nCylinder 6 - 175 PSI\r\n\r\nThe transmission also shifts great and the clutch is new. The listing mentions the following, but it\u2019s worth including that the transmission, clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, rear main seal, driveshaft center support bearing, fuel pump, fuel Injectors, engine mounts, spark plugs, Intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold, and muffler have all been replaced in the last 2,000 miles. Records, receipts, and an excel spreadsheet detailing these records, and service records dating back to 1983, are all included in the sale (and pictured). The replaced, original Getrag 262 has been completely rebuilt and is also included in the sale. The tires show great tread and were replaced more recently. The steering is tight, the brakes grab well (though it does stop how you would imagine an 80s 7-Series would; slowly), and suspension is smooth. All else told, the lights, windows, gauges, warning lights, power antenna, are all perfect. The not-so-perfect: the AC does not currently blow cold. The vacuum door locks all work well, though occasionally one of the passenger side door locks will stick in position and require a repeat of the lock/unlock maneuver. The climate control system is temperamental, as it seems to engage in \u201cvent\u201d and \u201cheat\u201d modes just fine sometimes, and other times stays on defrost. In any case, the heat works perfectly and blows hot. \r\nWith the flaws started, it makes sense to move onto the cosmetics of this shark! The paint certainly has fading and flaws. The gallery is extensive and includes many photos, most of which are in spotty shade, but we made sure to take some in direct sunlight as well to accurately depict the condition. Please see the gallery for all of those photos, as it\u2019s extensive and made to help give bidders and viewers alike a true portrayal of the car. All said, the paint shows well in person. The hood, roof, and trunk definitely bore the brunt of the Virginia sun. One of the better things to mention is that there is minimal rust present, most of which is shown on the driver side, rear, inner wheel arch. The rust is purely surface in nature, but full disclosure is the priority. See those photos in the gallery, too.\r\nAdditionally, as the description states and the photos show, there are plenty of spare parts to go with the shark. Miscellaneous replacement engine parts, the aforementioned transmission, and an M30 head, etc. will be included in the sale. There is certainly a lot, and it\u2019s worth noting that all of it was acquired as spares and not as an indication as a bad head, transmission, etc. obviously. \r\nI appreciate your consideration and viewing this E23. It\u2019s clear the seller\u2019s attention to detail is spot on and despite the worn and well loved patina this pony shows, a little show sheen, new horse shoes, some cosmetic up keep, and perhaps some illegal doping could go a long way here! ;)\n\nWith 289 images in the gallery we can all easily see the flaws, so keeping positive (unlike say the E9 forum nitpickers) I\u2019m gonna point out all the good here\u2026\n\n-Highly original example showing original paint despite the need for a refresh. At least there\u2019s nothing to hide here and the next care taker will be working with a fresh canvas should they elect to do a respray.\n\n- Original glass all around\u2026 try ordering a new front windshield from BMW with the proper stamping in the lower corner of the glass\u2026 unobtainable! \n\n- Bumper surrounds are rather excellent if original, and even if not, it\u2019s something that is typically an eye sore on an E23. Yes, euro bumpers would be more pleasing to the eyes but shortening the originals a few inches works well and still keeps with originality if electing to keep the bumper surrounds as shown.\n\n- Very minor dash cracks that\u2019s not very visible\u2026 with extra good care, this dash will stay that way if kept out of temperature extremes.\n\n- Rear leather seat rest are notorious for splitting being baked by sun under the rear glass\u2026 these seat rests appear to be in great condition.\n\n- Leather seats are original and have better than normal wear on the driver\u2019s side bolsters, not perfect but not hard to make look twice as good.\n\n- Brightwork is all there and appears to be in good condition.\n\n- \u201c April 2023\u2026 additional work at that time is said to have included replacing the clutch, pressure plate, pilot bearing, rear main seal, shifter bushings, and driveshaft center support bearing.\u201d\n\n- It\u2019s NOT an auto!\n\n- \u201c Manufacturer\u2019s literature will accompany the sale along with service records and spare parts.\u201d Win Win.\n\n- Original / Period correct wheels.\n\n- Strong engine numbers.\n\n- Sunroof which I\u2019m a fan of\u2026 slick tops in a 7 don\u2019t make sense to me.\n\n- Back of front leather seat pockets are taught and aren\u2019t sagging.\n\n- Interior wood trip isn\u2019t cracking or peeling.\n\n- Appears to be a non smoking car.\n\n- Original full size spare tire is there!\n\n- Shock tower caps are usually missing and difficult sometimes to keep on\u2026 they\u2019re both there on the towers.\n\n- Original rust free sheet metal.\n\n- Air filter box is in good condition and the paint isn\u2019t peeling.\n\n- The awful deteriorating under hood foam is removed which saves a messy hassle when going to clean and replace. DO CONSULT THE MANUAL on specified transmission oil - my 1976 2002 explained clearly what happens and why when one uses other than recommended MINERAL OIL (GL-1) - harsh chemicals in differential lubes eat up the brass/bronze synchronizers. Packard, Nash and most others also so specified. I should add that the rear speakers are wired to the Blaupunkt radio which has bluetooth, aux, and FM/AM capacity. Obviously the new owner can make whatever decision they choose and there was some discussion about the possibility of a paint-correction or some buffing & polishing. Ultimately, the paint presents quite well. No, it is not fantastic, but as the listing shows, the Fjord blue metallic shines on the sides. The photos uploaded last night are not as high-quality (obviously) and the paint looks much more like it does in the original photos than in those. It is much more blue in person and all of the light captured by a smart-phone lens can make it seem more white/silver than it is. Anyway!\r\n\r\n@UscPhd97_ @HinM5e39 The AC System was looked at and it does not seem to be holding pressure. From what the owner tells me, research, and perusing service records, the early e23s have a vacuum operated system. The current system has NOT been converted to r134a, meaning it is still r12, and everything seems to be there in the engine bay between the vacuum pods and lines but again the system did have a leak. There are also vacuum lines and pods behind the dash too that could be the culprit too, but from what I'm told I think a full check-up on the lines, pods, and an r134a conversion is necessary. It's also worth restating that the climate control system is fastidious and sometimes gets \"stuck\" on the defrost and low fan level setting.\r\n\r\nI hope this helps. At about 72-75 MPH it sits at roughly 3,500 RPM. Generally speaking, it's about 20-22 MPH per 1,000 RPM. So at 60-65 you'll be cruising right around high 2k or low 3k RPMs. Keep in mind this is all in fourth gear. The rear diff final drive ratio is 3.45, and it's an open diff, not the optional LSD. Mine was silver with black interior; but frankly, this looks better in blue. When I was in law school, I drove 150 miles per day commuting. Set the cruise on 85 once I hit the interstate. Amazingly, never got a ticket.\r\nWhat a great car. These e23s are so undervalued. Could benefit from a 5 speed overdrive tranny swap, but if you are just using it around town, leave it as is. No Bimmer from that era (70s 80s) should have an automatic trans.
