The wheels had been painted Red in the 1940s (something that was popular in that period) and that paint survived nicely with awesome patina when Ewan bought the car in 2016. We worked hard NOT to do them and keep them that way. Fast forward to 2022-'23 when the car was in storage at this \"shop\"....they stored it outdoors, exposed to the elements for a year. This did a lot of damage to the paint on the body, fenders and wheels (more so on the Right side of the car then the left. Today, its not needed at all, as the fuel quality is lightyears better. They cause more trouble then not though. The heat riser (Between the carb and the intake is hollow with a steel (exhaust tubing) throat pressed down the center. They are NOTORIOUS for rotting out due to moisture. I replaced this sleeve with a Stainless one and built the tool to do it. I also blocked all this off as it in non-functional. It's there for looks now. \r\n\r\n2) The big metal pedal up towards the fire wall is the starter. Bought it for $250 in 1963 (my first car). Same bad paint (patina if you will). Fuel pump gave out so I strapped a Jerrycan to the cowl and fed it by gravity. In summer I had to hose down the wood spokes to stop the squeaks. Fixing flats was a breeze with the split ring rims. Sold it in 1964 for $400. Thought i made a killing. Been looking for it ever since.
