To those that condemn the length of this comment I sincerely apologize and generally agree but BAT composes the verbiage in a matter of fact style that doesn't allow for anything opinion oriented. Kudos to them for that. As officer Joe Friday used to say \"Just the facts ma'am\". However, sharing other need-to-know information is important and left to this comments section. I will do my best to be concise. Although I purchased this car in 2018, a good friend of mine has owned it since March of 1993 when the odometer read 71,000 and that advertisement is in the file. I have been it's caretaker for a large portion of that time and she has resided with the other members of my collection. Of all the cars I've owned, collected and driven since turning 16 in 1983, this Skylark ranks firmly within my top 10 favorites. Tough decisions are being made and some need new homes. Colorado owner performed 80% of the upgrades almost 30 years ago. The 350ci was replaced with a correct '71 455 and extensive machine work was done. This was an expensive build. Engine has 5000-6000 miles on it. He also installed a TH-400, power DISC brakes and factory GS hood. Repaint to black done at that time. The 76,000 miles are actual. The original interior supports that claim as well as documentation that is included with the sale. Expertly converted to the manual 4 speed by a friend and fellow Buick enthusiast 7 years ago and it's difficult to tell that the guys at GM didn't do it. Correct steering column, pedal assembly, gauge cluster housing (original gauges) etc... It goes through the gears up and down with precision. Church-quiet with perfect synchro's and clutch engagement free of chatter. The Hurst shifter is tight and yet shifts like butter. The whole driving experience of this car is amazing but going through the gears is my favorite part. The shifter ball is right where your hand automatically goes and the clutch throw is perfect. It just feels right. I will sound like a broken record when it comes to driving this car. As I said, in 30+ years of driving cars of the 60's and 70's, this Buick sets the mark. I say that regardless of value. I've had some 35 and $40k cars that didn't hold a candle to the driving enjoyment of this Skylark. I'm sure being a POST helps but the rest is just luck without explanation. Regarding a couple of comments below: Yes, a POSI would be beneficial but not required. The 455 is a monster. I had the cam changed when the Muncie was installed. It's a Crane and I have the spec card. Mellow idle with slight lope. The engine build is spot-on. Starts easily and performance is impressive. The word stomp was used in a comment below. That's an understatement. With the addition of a posi the car would be hard to beat on the streets. Acceleration is immediate and dominating. And yet, she doesn't have a rattle or vibration under any driving conditions. Such a pleasurable drive in all respects. There's no exception for low mileage cars. The interior speaks for itself and is in wonderful shape showing very modest wear. The base-clear repaint was done nicely. It has aged but has done so gracefully. Blemishes are easy to find on close inspection but the car presents extremely well and I've discovered no abuses of body fillers, bondo or the like. The gallery photos are an honest depiction. Even if money were no object I would never repaint it. The story this car tells is obvious the second you see it. I avoid the word 'patina' but it could be used appropriately here. She's straight as you get on your knees and sight down the sides. You can pick a piece of lettuce out of your teeth in the finish. Again, flaws can be found as noted and photo'd within the display. Regardless, a very pretty car. I would know, I see her all the time. The car is rock-solid and near rust-free top to bottom. Even the undersides and trunk are excellent and 100% original. The only minor rust is on the bottom of the right front fender at the rocker molding (close up photo provided). 15 years ago a parking lot incident dented the original fender. It was repaired by a respected body shop. That repainted fender shows imperfections and under the right lighting appears a shade different from the rest. I was able to capture that shade differentiation in the photo layout. Almost undetectable even in person but worth mentioning. Everything functions properly and defines turn-key, daily driver. I am aware of no needs and have been driving her often lately as I prepare to say goodbye. Simply get in and go. A bold statement pertaining to a 47 year old vehicle but true nonetheless and I stand by it. I pulled no punches. I obviously really like and appreciate this car and I'm hopeful that my opinions will hold water with you folks. Any further clarifications will be gladly provided upon request. A 3.42 Posi would be a desirable upgrade and increase the size of a smile between stop lights but even if money grew on trees I'd leave it alone. Yes, the right rear tire is capable of scratching into 2nd and 3rd if you're on it. That is fun sometimes. There's a considerable amount of horsepower going to that rear end. If anything I'd add the Posi but leave the gearing as is. I enjoy the ability to comfortably cruise at 75mph on the highway in a vintage automobile and the 3.08 accomplishes that. It's been a long time but I obviously misunderstood a comment from the previous owner. Left the assembly line with a black finish and green vinyl interior and remains as such today. One pertained to the slight fluid seepage I mentioned within the description. Figured I'd share those results here. I called out things on my Skylark in the interest of being as detailed as I could be so that decisions made from a computer screen could be as educated as possible. Seepage to me is the light collection of grease or fluid near or adjacent to a gasket or seal excluding typical road grime. My Buick sits dormant most of the time as most vintage cars do. Be that as it may, she is driven often enough to keep things moving and lubricated. I stand by my seepage disclosure but currently, I find no fluid drips on my garage floor. When I was asked to express any complaints I have about the car I drew blank. Yes, that's kind of odd and she is 47 years old but, nevertheless, I don't have any complaints. She's been loved so she's well-sorted and free of gremlins or intermittent issues. I was also asked to clarify glass and chrome condition. Glass is all crystal clear and the side windows roll up and down with 2 fingers. Both bumpers and all exterior trim is very nice. I was harsh while describing the chrome condition of the bumpers. Light fading in a couple small areas but your clear reflection can be easily found. I got a question regarding reproduction and aftermarket do-dads. My car has very, very little of both. The bulk of the restoration/freshening to place nearly 30 years ago. NOS and quality used parts and pieces could be located back then. Obvious exceptions exist. The 3-pod gauges, trunk mat and the sponge Ram-Air hood gaskets come to mind. I'm struggling to think of anything else but will update if I do. This is a low mileage car and presents as such. The headliner is original and mint. Yes, she has shoulder belts as documented in the headliner photo. My Buick is rock-solid and almost completely rust-free. I magnified the photo (#33) of the very bottom of the right front fender and rocker molding in order to fully document the small area of rust isolated to that fender only. I do not have large hands or fat fingers. My index finger is pointing at that area of corrosion. Again, it is isolated to what you can see in that magnified photo. My Skylark is not a wolf in sheep's clothing. She was painted nearly 30 years ago. If there were issues lurking beneath the surface anywhere on the car they certainly would have presented by now and that's another reason I love the 30 year old finish. There's simply nothing to hide. That right fender is also the ONLY panel to receive work of any kind in the last 3 decades. It was lightly dented in a parking lot many years ago and repaired. All metal on the car is day-one original. Although the GS Ram-Air hood was added, it too is an original item, not aftermarket. I run Chevron premium unleaded in my cars if alcohol-free fuel is not available. Near my home there is a Country Store and gas station that sells non-ethanol super unleaded and I generally use that in my vintage vehicles. It's just over $4 a gallon but worth it especially in cars that sit for extended periods of time. I have the timing slightly retarded as a precaution. Not required but I like to protect the high-compression 455. She never pings. Additives are fine in the right applications but I prefer locating 104 octane during the summer months so I can dial up the timing every now and then on my classics. Bottom line, shes happy with 91-92 octance pump fuel.
