Owner had slid on a wet road and put the passenger side door and quarter into a stopped car. I paid the princely sum of $300 for the car, that had 102K miles IIRC. I bought a junkyard door (blue with a white door panel), spent a couple days jacking and hammering to get the door post back to where the door would latch and then welded a couple plates on where the spring shackle had been torn loose. Few more misc parts and the car was usable. As it was a 4th car, I just played with it for a couple months. One day a co-worker showed up at work, on foot. Turned out he couldn't afford his truck payment and it got repo'ed. I made him a deal on the Z, with the agreement that he would sell it back to me for the same price once he got another truck. 5-6 weeks later he shows up at work on foot again. \"Where is the Z\" I asked? He had gone to a local race track and when he came out the car was gone he said, stolen. Showed me the police report and it was what it was. Even tho the engine was badly in need of a rebuild, it would still put you back in the seat. Wished I hadn't sold it, but at that time you could buy them for $800-$1200. Boss 302's, all muscle cars, with a few rare exceptions (like K code Mustang Fastbacks) have stalled. The folks that wanted them are simply getting older, like me! Trans Ams have fared a bit better, as they are that a few years newer, and have a slightly younger audience as a result. Remember, you can sell an older man a young man's car, but you can't sell a young man an older man's car. I think the resurgence of good factory Mustangs and Camaros have actually hurt the older cars. Muscle cars exploded in price when there was nothing available that was interesting in the 1980's and part of the 1990's in USA cars save for a few things like Buick GNX's etc. New Mustangs and Camaros are incredible performance bargains today, and offer creature comforts galore.
