It has been a long restoration on this car. I will have start video and drive video up tomorrow hopefully as the smoke came in today from CA. Very rare color for a 1977. I did all the research to find the parts. These early 308's are different than the later models, so much harder to locate parts, as it's really just late 76, 77 and early 78 are the same. Every rubber seal was replaced for the windows, door light switches replaced (only one guy has them and he charges $125 each and there are 3), replaced the kidney vents with new, and the shift bushing as well at the transmission. I did whatever it took. Wheels, and the labels on the wheels were a challenge, and took months to find the right artist to make it happen, here in Spokane. But knew it had to be done to make the car correct. I was going to take to the NW Region Ferrari show in July, but due to Covid it was cancelled. \r\n\r\nI believe the boxer paint was done back in the early 80's as they tried to make it look more modern (maybe even to sell at RT but couldn't get confirmation), in which they also installed the rear spoiler and the vents behind the headlights were anodized when they should have been painted (a real challenge to paint by the way). When this car was in Seattle to strip the paint, I took it by Alfa of Tacoma, where Carlo said clearly there were no 308's in 1977 that left the factory in a boxer paint scheme. This is a 4 owner car, verified. I had to wet sand blast as I tried to sand off the old lacquer paint and it was so baked on I couldn't get to the metal. It would have been a DA tool and would have warped the thin metal panels. \r\n\r\nTool kit I believe is complete, I even found the original window crank in the small glove box when I was finally able to get it open. That is a super rare item, as well as the light. \r\n\r\nI found the luggage set from a wonderful gentleman in Italy, was going to pick up while there but it didn't work out a few years ago, so he shipped to me here in the states. He is amazing and did an epic job painting this beautiful piece of art. So many stories with \"Blue\", from the first week I got her it was February and cold, so we cleaned her outside and then put in the heated shop, I went on vacation and when my friend came back then next weekend, she was covered in baby spiders, as the shop temp told them it was time to hatch. \r\n\r\nShe sat outside for years under a carport cover, but Texas has lots of critters as with the baby lizard when I took the rear decklid apart. For the ANSA exhaust question, the car came with the ANSA, previous owner purchased and installed on the car. He said it was almost brand new when purchased. I do not have the grill piece as this exhaust is a bit wider than factory between the tips and would entail cutting the original \"grill\" I would call it that covers the exhaust. \r\n\r\nAs far as the bumpers etc. When I got the car the front valance under the battery area was eaten away by battery acid, due to the battery being left in the car and leaking. I found a USA front valance from a gentlemen in Florida, so I purchased it and installed it after stripping etc. I still have the original, but in trying to weld a new section in; we realized the metal was so thin it would never look right. \r\n\r\nGoing Euro was out of the question. I went to a NW Region Ferrari show in 2015 with my TR and realized that with the right restoration, \"Blue\" would certainly be a 308/328 class winner. On the drive home from Seattle (about 300 miles), I made up my mind that I would have a Class winning 308, that no other car could match. So that set my goal high and that is why I went to the level and quality that it is today. It is a USA born car, on the underside of the headliner it has a number 531 USA, if I remember the number right. Everything in the front is super tight, so it's really the only change. The tires were purchased from Coker in March 2020. The last time I drove the car at any speed was back in March of 2016 in which it had new style Michelin tires (which I still have). I never drove the car more than 2 miles prior to this video and they were slow; which was April 18th, the roads still had some winter sand and I was very concerned about chips. \r\n\r\n@Eventguy the carpet is as close as I could get to the original color. I tried World Upholstery and they send me a whole kit but it was incorrect to the year of the car and was more Navy Blue and to dark. The shop here in Spokane did an amazing job finding this blue that is extremely close. I had kept all the old carpet when I took it out, and so they had the patterns needed. Too much overlap, too much rubber injected on one side, or an outer edge. Tires that aren't round in the first place. All these older tires were /are made by hand. We'd balance test drive and re-balance. It was a joke. BFG and the second and third tier tire Mfgrs. were the worst. I had a brand new GTV-6 on the alignment rack and noticed steel cords hanging out of a brand new Pirelli. And with Coker, they are made by hand with poor quality control. That's just the way it is. Now tires are made mostly by machines. And QC. is to a higher standard. If you want a really round tire, buy a Conti made in Germany, a Bridgestone made in Japan, a Firestone made in USA etc. That's my advice. It was a crazy work day and had a couple glasses of Vino, so didn't want to slur my answers to you. \r\n\r\nFirst and foremost: This is not a \"BOXER\" car. It was updated to a boxer look in the early 80's maybe even at Ron Tonkin to sell it. The car had been painted 2 times, I know this from sanding down the body, so the color scheme in the first pictures from the early sale are the respray. Along with the boxer paint, I believe at that time when someone installed the spoiler and the anodized grills behind the headlights in 77-79 they are painted behind the headlights. \r\n I'm sure the painter at Ferrari said, change those they are a pain to paint (in Italian of course). \r\n\r\nCarlos at Alfa of Tacoma, was at the factory at that time . He said clearly that there were \"NO 308's in BOXER\" paint that left the factory. It also would have been noted from when I asked for color verification. The email is in the listing stating the color and the interior color. \r\n\r\nI would have painted it \"BOXER\" with all this work, if that's what was required to make it original. Again, I was going for a Platinum Award, no expense spared. \r\n\r\nThe speedometer is noted that way by BaT, not by me. I know the mileage is accurate and I know the speedo was \"repaired\" not replaced. It's the original speedo to the car. This was done a shop in CA, that Ferrari Tech knows and repairs a lot of old Speedos. I have no idea what internally was not operational, but he felt it needed to be done. You only take these apart once and when in there fix everything even if you think it might be broke or have an issue. To take the faceplate out you need to pop out the \"idiot lights\" and there are 4 screws holding the plate to the \"dome\" and of course they used straight blade screws. Really a pain to get to. \r\n\r\nI changed the window motors due to them being a known problem, they were 40 years old and they move very slow, and again are difficult to change. My TR was the same had to help the windows into place when it was cold. I had the doors all apart and just figured it was a good time to upgrade and to make sure I never had an issue. It's a cable system with the window bolting to the cable, takes about 5 hours to change, and to adjust after install. I had the passenger window in 3 times. First the original, after in and set, decided I didn't like the window as it was pitted and had a lot of chips in it. Found a new window put it in, but it wasn't Saint Gobain, after seeing BaT and every auction took pictures of the glass, I had to change it again. I got ahold of my friend @ Eurospares and he found GTB glass for me. So that is what is in it, it was sitting for awhile and was out of a car, but it is correct Saint Gobain glass. Remember the GTB glass is different from GTS glass, and the 77's are different then other cars as well. It's not easy to aquire the parts needed. \r\n\r\nHVAC- I bought the car to drive and take to shows, before I decided to win a show as a goal. I wanted the car to have good AC so it would be nice to drive. It gets 100 degrees here in the summer, and heard the AC system in these old 308's isn't the best. The other issue is the cooling lines run through the center of the car to the engine, so it creates a lot of heat in the cabin. Also it's hard to get R12. My TR had R12, would work for a couple months and then it was empty. Driving a dark gray TR to Oregon at 95 degrees and no AC my wife was not happy, didn't want that with Blue. \r\n\r\nExhaust is what came with the car when I purchased it. The ANSA sport exhaust is the best for these to breath and create music.\r\n\r\nRadiator Cooling Fans- Also a known overheat problem, so upgraded the fans to more modern motors that turn better and are more efficient, again with 100 degrees, need to make sure the cars stay cool. \r\n\r\nCabin air fans, left and right: Replaced them both they were 44 years old, and the plastic was brittle. To get to them if an issue you must take the valance off. It's hours of work and possible damage to paint if taken off incorrectly. These are not aftermarket units, they are original units, just didn't want issues. I think each one was around $300, but they are nice and new and have new motors. \r\n\r\nFront valance- explained earlier, old valance was eaten by the battery acid and I couldn't repair it right, so replaced.\r\n\r\nFuse blocks- answered below very well @seanmdo know issue, couple hour fix to solve a lot of problems. \r\n\r\nClassishe certification: I haven't looked into it, as really the car was just was finished last month. I'm not sure what that takes exactly. \r\n\r\nI have the parts for all the items listed above. Any last minute items please let me know, smoke has cleared away but we had rain so don't really want to drive her now. \r\n\r\nAs far as the carpets go, this is not your normal interior for a 308. In all the pictures I reviewed and searched for, I didn't see this color combo. I'm sure a lot of blue carpets were removed when the owners took their non-red cars to red in the early 80's. \r\n\r\nIt's not red tan, it's not black black, it's blue and blue Sabbi. I don't know for sure but it could be the only one for 1977. Roughly know as only about 750 cars were produced in 1977. \r\n\r\nI know the exterior color is very rare, and only a handful of cars were painted this color in 1977. Metallic paint was very expensive and Ferrari was budget minded. I know of a 79 in England, but his interior is black carpet with navy seats. \r\n\r\nI would believe there is only 5 carpet colors- Black, Tan, Red, Blue, Cocco \r\n\r\nThough I'm not expert on this- it's only what I've researched and seen. \r\n\r\nI looked around the world for a replacement carpet set, or carpet that matched. It doesn't exist, this was the 70's so color schemes were different then as well. \r\n\r\nIt really was part of the draw of the car when I saw it the first time. I didn't want a red tan 308, I didn't want a GTS, I wanted the unusual 308 that would stand on its own. By the comments, I think I succeeded. \r\n\r\nIt really does accent the seats and makes them pop. I wish the original carpets wouldn't have been is such poor condition.
