Recently finished replacing a squeaky blower motor (while in there replaced the heater core), new coolant & hoses, coolant after-run pump, ignition switch, etc. Finding good support on AudiWorld S6 forum & others, just wish AoA would be MORE supportive when it comes to OEM parts availability. \nThat picture of the driver's side trunk opening shows 2 grommets missing (1 in fender & 1 in trunk lid)...common problem. The grommet rubber material deteriorates due to age and basically disintegrates (can't buy just the grommets...grrr!). The opening in the fender is particularly problematic since water can find its way into the trunk interior via this opening. I found some correct size firewall grommets, used a rat-tail file to shape the proper angle of the hole in the grommet for the cable to pass through, slit the grommet in order to fit it around the cable & in the opening, and sealed everything with some black silicone automotive sealant. Volia problem solved. \nHave same suspension setup as this example however went thru a period where front H&R springs were breaking (H&R replaced them under warranty). Still on the search for what's causing some front end suspension noise however. Also have small leak in steering rack. With Nokian Hakkapelitta winter tires on the same wheels as this example car seems unstoppable in the snow. Run 17\" '03 S6 Avus wheels with summer tires during warm months.\nNice looking example and hard to find an unmolested one these days. Will be watching closely. This is what is known as an original S car, or UrS6. The build on the UrS cars in my opinion was far superior to anything Audi did in following years. The UrS cars received special attention on and after coming off the Audi line. The 1995 was built with years previous experience on the drive train and suspension. I agree your wife's 2002 A6 is a different critter.\n\n@Metropolis71 The power steering had a grinding in the system when the steering was turned to extreme left or right. I replaced the power steering hose and that eliminated the noise. It was determined that the restrictor in the hose was defective. No other problems with the power steering system in the almost 40,000 miles I have driven the car. I have not had the power steering pump serviced as it has not needed it. The vibration is only under heavy braking and does not affect braking performance. I made a mistake putting inexpensive drilled rotors on the front of the car. The reason I haven't corrected the situation is because I have contemplated upgrading to Porsche brakes for better performance. The car has not been driven very much in the last year and half because I am traveling full time in a motor home and therefore have not made a decision on which way I wanted to go with the brakes. Since contemplating selling the car, I felt the new owner should have the choice of upgrading the brakes or staying with stock brakes. It would have been easy to change the rotors and not mention the vibrations. The stock brakes are more than adequate for street driving. If someone is going to track the car or drive it super robustly or would prefer better braking, then it would be best to upgrade the brakes not because it would be needed but would make a better car for spirited driving. There are vendors who sell the upgrades or a do-it-yourselfer could do the upgrade. The problem was noticed immediately and the engine shut down, the car taken to Autobahn Performance in Doraville, Georgia. Paul Cassara who owns a UrS car and is very familiar with them did the repair work and is well respected in his abilities to work on them. The head was reconditioned, the valve seals were replaced eliminating oil seepage into the cylinders, the head shaved, all making the head better. I was told the valves were in good condition and there was no need for a valve job (not bad for a car with 178,000 miles). I have driven the car almost 10,000 miles since the repair. There was during the repair and since no evidence of bearing deterioration. Standard equipment on this car is an oil temperature gauge. The oil temperature is the same currently as it was before the repair. There has been no indication of inadequate oil pressure. There are no unusual noises from the engine. The engine feels stronger now than before the problem.
