That's because the 67 was the result of buttoned up thinking and not enough push to get something new. All that changed when a kid fresh out of Art Center did the design for the 68 Charger. Brownlie tried to kill it but insiders in the studio thought it had promise. So they built a full sized clay of it and hid it from Brownlie - when he saw it, he was fuming and demanded it be destroyed. They hid it away and kept working. When the suits came in to see the new line up for the year, Brownlie showed off the yawners and the suits asked if he had something \"Different\". He didn't. \r\n\r\nLuckily however, one of the cocky insiders stepped up and said \"well sir what about this\" pulling back the movable panels that hid the 1968 Charger. They green lighted the car that day. Brownlie was fuming again, but had to eat crow. When the suits departed, he paced out the clay looking at it, angrily scoffing. Then he reached over the rear of the car and pulled the gas cap from the center of the tail light cluster and slapped it on the to surface of the rear fender. \"That's where it should be\" He said. It would be the ONLY thing Browlie would have to do with the design of the 68 Charger, despite taking all the credit for it. The designer, Richard Sias, would leave Chrysler not long after that and spend another 30 years working at Boeing as one of the best tooling and surfacing experts in the industry. \r\n\r\nBefore he left, however, he worked on a few sketches with his friend John Herlitz for the next car in line.
