I am not familiar with the costs or restoring/repairing them but a quick look at what other 2002s sold for it would seem that the owner had some difficult choices to make. Few of these seem to sell for over 10k so even if he got the car for free the cost of repairing rust, repainting, redoing parts of the interior and dealing with the heat would almost certainly put him under water. While the end result shows poor craftsmanship and questionable choices, it would seem that the costs involved in a correct and careful restoration would never be recouped. A fun car has been saved from the crusher (at least for now) and someone, perhaps me, should have fun driving it - just don't take it to your local cars and coffee if you have a thin skin. Sellar seems a realist so perhaps we will see a sale. This is not by any means a criticism of all those who have pointed out the defects in this car.
