To compensate, McLaren developed the AAMS (Active Air Management System). It can be seen on the hood. When activated, a small deflector rises a few inches out of the hood in front of a small grille. Simultaneously, dampers in the nose of the car open and allow air to pass through to the grille just behind the deflector on the hood. The low pressure created by the deflector (aided by a little aerodynamics wizard casting spells under the bonnet) pushes the airflow over the passenger compartment. Further, the gauge cluster, which is mounted to the steering column, takes a chunk of the remaining air and diverts it down towards your chest. The maniacs in Woking really did an amazing job at making this the best of the sans-windshield cars and every comparison review out there confirms that fact.\r\n\r\nNow, because of the fun police at the DOT, a windshield version of the Elva was added. I have in my collection a Senna, 765LT, 765LT spider, SVJ, Countach, SF90, Dino, 365BB, 356, 911 and DB6 among others I\u2019ve owned and driven. They are all great in their own ways. But, nothing is quite like the experience you get in this car. It\u2019s like a cross between being on a motorcycle and being in a sports car. With the air management system the wind feels no different than being in a convertible. For those of you whose vjayjays hurt at the thought of riding in a car with no windshield, there are a set of bulletproof sunglasses that come with the car along with a set of helmets. I will have to admit I was a tiny bit nervous about it the first time. But, once you drive it you realize it\u2019s no different than riding a motorcycle. And once you experience it, you can\u2019t go back. Like The Baron said, if you can\u2019t handle it, stick to ur Prius. This car makes you feel like your a little kid riding in a fast sports car for the first time. You have a smile on your face from ear to ear the whole time. So much so, that when you finally get out your face hurts from how much your smiling (not from the wind or the bugs). My wife went for a 5 minute ride the first time and couldn\u2019t stop laughing the whole time. After the ride she said \u201cyou have to buy this!\u201d Everyone that rides in it says it\u2019s both the funnest and craziest car they\u2019ve ever been in. It\u2019s like a rollercoaster, car, and motorcycle all rolled into one. It\u2019s like the exhilaration you get from skydiving! Lol, I just can\u2019t say enough about the uniqueness and exhilaration of the experience.\r\n\r\nAlso, the photos don\u2019t do the car justice. It\u2019s a beautiful and stunning car in person. This car wasn\u2019t even on my radar. I remember being at pebble beach a few years ago and McLaren did a special presentation where they told people about the car. The car wasn\u2019t in production yet, but they were showing the concept. At the time my wife and I remember thinking, \u201cthat\u2019s stupid, no one is going to pay that much for that car\u201d. Then, one day I saw it in person at the dealership and my jaw dropped. It brings back the childhood memories of speed racer. It evokes the race cars of the past like the SLR, Testarossa, and the D-type. Then I went for a 5 minute drive and bought it right after. How wrong was I at pebble beach! For those of you who can afford a car like this, this is what you have to think about\u2026there are lots of other cars out there, some are faster than others, some are beautiful, and they are all great and unique in their own ways. But, when it comes down to it, the experience you get from most cars is essentially the same. Yes, some might handle better, some might have different modes and sounds, some might even have convertible tops. But, none of them is like this car. Take the difference in experience between driving a convertible and a coupe and multiply that by 10. Then think about the fact that there are thousands of cars that have convertibles, but there is no other car like this one. Yes, Ferrari has the SP1 and 2, Aston has the speedster, and there is the sterling moss Mercedes McLaren SLR, maybe a few others. But none of those have the air management system that makes this car actually drivable without a helmet.\r\n\r\nI could go on and on with comparisons and explanations; but, suffice to say that whoever decides to buy this car, you will receive an experience that is totally unique, that you can\u2019t replicate, that you will never forget, and one that you will never for one moment regret.
