The garage collapsed on the car and it was totaled and I was out the balance I financed to the deadbeat besty who told me it was my fault. She claimed the tranny slipped. Nope, it worked perfect. Lesson learned. If I wanted the 400 cu in engine, I could have driven one home from the dealer the same day, but I wanted the 351 so I sat down with the sales guy and we put together the deal.\r\n\r\nThere should be one check box on the top of the order forms titled \"Just Give Me Everything\" and the time spent would be a lot less. My new T-Bird finished out just a tad over 8 grand, but I got what I wanted, including the dark brown metallic exterior with the white and brown leather buckets inside!\r\n\r\nUnfortunately, apparently due to the fact everybody wanted the 351 instead of the base 302 or the thirsty 400, because there was a shortage of the 351 engine at the time of my order. So it took what seemed like forever before I could get the whiff of new car. By the time I took delivery, the '78s were just about to start production.\r\n\r\nAnyway, the wait was worth it, because I got what turned out to be one of the nicest cars I ever owned. Mine needs a resto. I put a lot of miles on the car and kept track of the gas millage and documented many times getting 27mpg. My father's 75' Caddy was great but this 79' T-bird rides like a cloud and drives like a champ. Huge trunk and mine has t-tops. Just a magnificent car these are. Last yr for the Tbird.
