I want to respond to a couple of the comments, just to add some thinking points:\n\nDr Randy: One of the KEY benefits of the 289 style replicas is that the sidepipes are tucked up under the rockers. Burns are certainly still possible, but are MUCH less likely than on a 427-style Cobra. This was a big deal for me when I bought this car since I have two young kids, and wanted to reduce the risk of burns :-)\n\nTorontoJeff: I would guesstimate the BHP in the 360-375 range. My best 0-60 (using the GPS speedo's timer) was 4.79, and one cool thing with the toploader and the high-winding 289: You can hit 60MPH in first gear :-)\n\nJags In the barn, and Bill_S: Yes, I've done the best I can to disguise the lugs, but honestly, I know too many Cobra owners (more than 5) who have stories of losing wheels on the road, or on the autocross track when their knockoff safety wires failed. 5 points of failure per wheel is better than one in my mind, especially if you plan to drive the car, but you're right, the purists don't like the lugs...\n\nDAN- Yes, I think a California buyer could do a simple title document transfer without an inspection, and they'd get tags, a plate, and an emissions exemption, no problem ( This is Just my opinion as a former California resident- California bidders please do your own research)\n\nBrewster: I like the way you think- I put 3500 miles on this car, and more than 3000 of those were with the rollbar sitting behind a chair in my den. This car does EXACTLY the same thing. If you're driving along on a deserted road at 50 mph, and you decide to make a right turn, you don't even need the brakes- just lift off the throttle, apply the necessary steering input, and as the car slides into the Apex and falls onto the new line, just re-center the steering wheel, and re-apply the gas.... I've never felt any insecurity that the ass-end was going to come all the way around (but again, I've never pushed it past the point where the street tires start giving that subtle little screech that indicates that they are losing their grip on reality :) )\nAlso, for full disclosure- I've never had this car on a racetrack, or on an AutoX course; and if I WAS planning to put it on a racetrack, I would ABSOLUTELY add a rear sway bar, stickier tires, and adjustable rear coilovers. But, for how this car is set up right now, everything works well together. The suspension is perfectly matched to street tires, and the end result is a car that feels like you're driving a shifter-cart with headlights. It is an absolute BLAST. \nRegarding rear-end hop: It's non-existent. If you wind this car up anywhere past 3500RPM and dump the clutch, you will get exactly what you would expect to get: a long, smoky burnout. No rear end hopping, no axle windup\u2026 just a lot of smoke, and a lot of noise. (and again, for disclosure: I'm not a big \"burnout guy\" - I think burnouts are stupid. Tires are expensive, and wasting them needlessly makes no sense to me at all. I knew several folks that owned 260/289 Cobras way back when they were \"inexpensive\", and they were unanimous in how bad the transverse leaf spring suspension was on anything but smooth road surfaces. I've mentioned before that a former college roommate called his 260 Cobra a \"don't look back car\". When accelerating up an interstate on-ramp he would pick out the car ahead of him that he would pull in front of - there was no need to look in the mirror. Fantastic acceleration and good braking for the times, but that was it. For the twisty stuff he preferred his E-Type. Sold the Cobra for $5K in 1981and kept the E-Type. The current Cobra kit cars with full jointed suspension achieve the best of both worlds.\r\n\r\nThis sale has also brought me up to speed on the qualities of the Unique kit. I previously liked the Hawk cars from England (especially their AC Ace), but can see the Unique being just as desirable for this particular Cobra build. GLWTA!", "like
