Somehow at some point a guy named Brian Angliss bought the operation, tooling and all and he kept building and selling them as Autokraft. At least I think that's how it happened. So an Autokraft was built with the same bucks and dies and maybe some of the same people who hammered out the originals. Over time, details changed, things were modernized, compromised and otherwise progressed until the cars became either softer or more civilized. Some of us feel they lost their sharp edge. But even a \"civilized\" Cobra is better than no Cobra. The build quality of the AC MkIV\u2019s is far superior to any Cobra ever built. The inside of the fender wells are fiberglass lined to prevent dents occurring from stone/rocks from the inside. The car is also equipped insulation in critical areas of the exhaust, transmission and foot wells. The gauge of the aluminum body is slightly thicker then the original Cobras. There is nothing in the Cobra world that compares to the AC MkIV. I bought it from a guy in Santa Monica who had it shipped to Calif less engine and trans. He put a top loader and a 427 side oiler in it but kept everything else stock MK4. After I bought it I sent it to Bill Larzelere in Burbank Calif. He stripped down the car, we had it painted silver and fabricated or replaced wirinh harness, dash gauges etc, etc to match a original 427 street model that Bill had in the shop. As these were produced in the 1980\u2019s and early 1990\u2019s, 20+ years after the original, in order to get these cars Federalized for importation to the U.S., there were tweaks made to the cars to get them to pass safety and emissions regulations, thus the shock absorbing bumpers and fuel injected engines, side marker lights and other mods. I own a 1987 AC Mk. IV and can attest to what terrific cars these are. Very well built and solid as a rock on the road vs. the cowl shake I\u2019ve experienced driving the fiberglass replicas. I completed a 1,000 mile tour of Oregon in mine a few months ago and mine performed flawlessly as is the nature of these cars. This looks to be a very nice example. It had been modified by Roush in the early 1990's with all aluminum GTP engine, suspension mods, scatter shield, etc. It was very fast, but also uncomfortable to drive. I don't think most people fully appreciate what these cars are, in terms of build quality. They are completely hand built, all aluminum body AC cobras. They are a little longer than the originals and have a little more room. Too bad there wasn't more interest.
