When you're a kid in high school with nothing to do but sports, school, and play with cars, you'll DIY a different mix/quantity of things compared to when you're 3000 miles away and you get a call that says \"hey son, I was moving your car and noticed X\" or you're applying to graduate school. The other thing it reflects are the other cars I've owned. I currently have 7 old cars (ranging from 1969-1995, of which three are Italian!) but there was a time when this was my only car. At some point, it becomes too much to keep up with as a DIYer! And of course, no one sets out by saying \"I think I'll spend $50k maintaining/modifying a car I paid $3750.\" It was a labor of love that represents the accumulation of hundreds of individual decisions each made on a different day in a different financial context.\n\nOn the Dinan sway bars: they were so expensive to fit because Dinan's swaybar offering for the E28 chassis is so large that you must use the M5 mounts. Fitting these sway bars requires cutting off the sway bar mounts and welding on the larger M5 mounts. So the bill you see includes 1) the sway bars, M5 mounts, bushings, and end links and 2) labor associated with removing the old sway bars, cutting off the sway bar mounts, grinding the surrounding area, welding on the new mounts, painting/undercoating, and installing the new sway bars. This invoice was actually my high school graduation present from my dad: he had a superchaged S52 M Coupe being built at Dinan at the same time. The chassis in this car is really enjoyable: it's a balanced, fun car that you can trust and huck into corners like a much smaller car, thanks to the suspension setup.\n\nOn sunroof rust bubbles/front end repair: I just noticed the bubbles in the sunroof recently and the front end repair was done 4 years ago. This repair was done via insurance, btw. It happened when my mom tried to move the car inside after getting home from having had knee surgery (drugs...) and she popped the clutch in that process and hit the garage door. Before anyone jumps on that, she is normally a competent operator and has a 15k mile '89 Speedster she bought in 1990 and it has all original paint still. A touch of throttle helps stabilize the idle. Goes away when warm. No hesitation under load.\n2) there's a vibration at speed, I believe from the wheels needing to be balanced. You feel it through the seat of your pants, not through the steering wheel. Depending on the road surface, it can be absent or fairly noticeable.
