I was referring to @NewportSLS\r\n\r\nThe transmission issues are endemic to the SLS. If you get the car (and @analphabetic, congratulations, my roadster is seriously the best decision I've ever made), max out an extended service contract. Mercedes won't offer it for the SLS and SLR, but there are other ways to get a good one.\r\n\r\nMy transmission went mechanically bad within two months of purchase and less than 7,500 miles on the odo. I bought my SLS from Massachusetts, so the dealer and Mercedes covered the transmission swap under Mass. law. And since I'd heard of early iterations of this Getrag 7 speed spontaneously developing leaks, I ended up paying a bit extra for a new transmission because Mercedes would only offer me a remanufactured one (with the old housing, which is known to develop leaks such as what @NewportSLS is describing). \r\n\r\nThe way mine was addressed was unique, but I guarantee you that getting an extended service contract to head off the risk of a transmission housing issue would be smart given @NewportSLS's story and other relatively easily googled ones. And if enough people run into this exact issue, it's hopefully something Mercedes will be forced to fix for the SLS. As a teenager I drove a 1977 911S with thermal reactors. It leaked oil everywhere. Since then I owned and driven all of the exotics and come to understand that high maintenance and repair costs go with the territory. They are just machines. To me, the fun of owning and driving an exotic is worth the extra costs. I must say, however, my SLS has required nothing more than routine maintenance.\r\n\r\n@garrettblaha25 gave you great advice. Keep your spirits up. Our fingers are crossed the repair is not to costly.\r\n\r\nOne last thought - I think you are a very fortunate guy. More than 99.99% of the population will never be in a position to know what it is like to have to get their SLS repaired.
