Its extremely quick for a street car and the shorter gears from the F12 are VERY noticeable. Absolutely lovely sound, power band and delivery. \r\n\r\nOne of the nicest things about the car is that drives as calmly and smoothly as any luxury touring GT. A lot of Ferraris have a very sensitive throttle that requires a very light foot even in higher gears to stay smooth. The 458, for example, usually takes a little driving to smooth out that foot a little. This is as smooth as could be even with a clunky foot. But when you lean into, is has the growing howl of the big V12 as it builds to almost 9k rpm and things pick up speed quickly. It's as quick as Veyron from my calibrated seat and feels way more nimble. The rear steering is really thoughful and dials out the understeer in a gentle manner. \r\n\r\nThe car is not over the top in terms of the visual and the interior is refined actually has a great sound system. It is near everything I cold want in a car. Trunk space is great too. \r\n\r\nI've driven and experienced a LOT of cars of all shapes and sizes. The 812 is one of the best Ferraris ever made and as such, one of the best all around cars out there. When I sat down in SF in October two years ago, and went through the car's choices at the dealer, it took three hours to select the perfect car for me, and there were about 300 options in all permutations. \r\n\r\nThe options I chose (I did not overload it) cost more than a new Ford Mustang Bullit commemorative model just introduced the time I was ordering. Stupid but that is why we love these cars. I have four V 12s and keep buying them. \r\n\r\nIf any one wishes to learn from me why I simply adore this car, just contact me below; I have a 550, and a 599 and the 812 and they all are special and very different, yet are all V-12 GT's in Ferrari's successive line . . . All worth owning and driving at once, as they are so unique. \r\n\r\nYou folks know the prices and the wait times for new 812 orders . . . we pay list (delivered with California tax, the new model is about $475,000 in California after almost a year wait time when ordered new). Go for it gentlemen! \r\n\r\nSo why buy this? Because it feels and sounds and performs like a F-1 car, every time you drive it. Every time. It has so many refined features, and technology assists (like four wheel traction control, that is so more refined than just traction control to protect us reckless types from going off the road on insane curve lines) . . . One key option we street drivers must have: front nose lift button which activates 4 inch rise under 25mph -- I use it multiple times a drive with 812. \r\n\r\nWhomever snatches this, I know will adore it -- as for the black with red . . . that is taste for the individual to choose. BTW, one commenter noted below the hilarity of a typo by Ferrari in the sales literature . . . I have one better: in the short edition starter guide of my Factory Manuals that came in the butter leather pouch, in the first two pages, the diagram of the dash (with numbers pointing to each dial or switch) REVERSED the speedo for the tach. \r\n\r\nThey went to press and to market with that glaring flaw! \r\n\r\nI tell first time Ferrari buyers: \"You want Quality? Huh? Then forget Ferraris and buy an Audi R8. WE are its quality control as users.\" To this day, new car warranties from Ferrari (i have several) are the shortest and worst in the industry. And the wait for service is often . . . so delayed by parts, even for the 812. Who cares? If you get this car, you will never sell it, only drive it. \r\n\r\nOH, and do get the simple after-market add, which is a bolt on unit your Ferrari dealer can install for under $2k, which kicks the butterfly valves in the exhaust pipes (normally half closed until warmed up and out on the highway under load), fully open on start. By flicking button 1 you get open valves and a bit more roar at start and slow speeds (no difference going 70 mph). Button two reverts to stock settings any time. Natch, the car's emissions (and actually performance with back-flow pressure for better ignition/consumption), are not helped by full open butterflies at start and low speeds, but hey it sounds like you are Hamilton if you take it up to red line . . . \r\n\r\nIn closing, as a multiple Ferrari owner driving them since 1997, and other performance cars well known, I had high expectations of the 812 -- owning it blows them away!\r\n\r\nI have not a single regret or complaint about this machine: for me the only car I've ever specced from new, ordered from the dealer and waited for. Worth it. I will be very interested to learn its price as I bought mine for the above stated amount and have zero regrets. I love the BAT community.
