The lack of power steering is a real concern. The power steering rack is still present and I believe it is possible to mount a pump and lines if one was going to stick with the SBC.\r\n\r\n2. Not sure about the \"ear shattering decibels\" There is no reason that after mufflers are reinstalled why this car would be any louder than any V8 car? \r\n\r\n3. The radiator and fan combination is plenty sufficient for this application, it is the same as used in many hot rod builds, car does not run hot at all during extended idle and air flow only increases once moving, not sure what doesn't work here? Of course, it's not like I am in a desert environment here in Maine, lol! \r\n\r\n4. Good eye on the seats, I never would have known they were not original 71 seats if you had not pointed that out. I went out to the \"interwebs\" and sure enough, they are slightly different 71-73. \r\n\r\n5. That is a clock in the glove box door, not the oil pressure gauge. No gauges were \"disconnected\", just some were not integrated into the triumph cluster after the swap. \r\n\r\n6. The body is amazingly solid in my opinion. The only panel that needs replacement is the front valance, it can be repaired but is available new for less than $100 form Rimmer Bros. The floors, uni-body, trunk, doors, deck lid, and bonnet are near perfect and there are only a few bubbles/blisters otherwise as shown. That said, choices of what to do with the body/paint is very subjective and costs can vary wildly based on each persons expectations. The car would look quite respectable with some minor body work and a modern respray, IMHO. \r\n\r\n7. Restored four of them.\r\nAll had the Triumph V-8 except my current car, a triple black '73 with 30,000 two-owner miles.\r\nI finally tired of trying to keep all coolant in the Triumph V-8 and getting it to run consistently well all the time.\r\nSo, I did what Triumph had originally planned: I installed a 2.5-liter TR6 engine (with some performance mods) and I have never once regretted it.\r\nThis is the best engine for the Stag. It drops right in, no mods necessary if you use the 2500S sedan front crossmember. Even the power steering hoses fit perfectly. I like it over the 215 Buick engine.\r\nWhile I agree patch panels are available for not a lot of money, cutting out the old, welding in the new and getting the car ready for paint is an expensive, labor-intensive affair. So, the low relative cost for patch panels is irrelevant to me.\r\nThe best thing about your car is that it is pretty much complete and could be the basis of a ground up restoration that would save the new owner from the laborious task of tracking down missing parts. But...\r\nA nice original Stag or one that is in far better shape can be had for much less than it would take to sort this one out.\r\nA cosmetically tired Stag with the wrong drivetrain, in my view, is the least desirable in light of the Stags you can get for not much more money. One of my previous Stags, a very nice original '73 Mimosa with a rebuilt original engine and overdrive four-speed can be bought now from the current owner for around 20. Stags are great looking, so having one you can use with confidence is excellent. \r\n\r\nOf course you could also yank the small block and drop in a Saab 9-5 Aero engine with an early 90s S-10 5-speed transmission (I don't remember the exact gearbox, but it's apparently one of the only longitudinal gearboxes that bolts right up to a Saab H engine). What I am surprised at is the last two original and very clean stags that I sent to BAT for listing they decided they did not want to list or at an absurdly low reserve. Both cars were original, clean western or southern cars, one with 38K and the other with 44k. Both sold for my asking prices around $12 -14k range to knowledgeable stag persons within 2 weeks of posting on Ebay. \r\n\r\nParts for these cars are reasonable to find. We still have 11 Stags. We have 5 original spare engines and transmissions sitting our shelves.
