Your theory of it being a demonstrator is a valid one. Many times a new car is handed over to a key employee (Service Manager, Sales Manager, Owner, Owner's wife, etc) for a few months to use as their personal vehicle. It wears dealer plates during that time and is still included in the dealer's inventory. Applicable laws allow a vehicle that has never been titled and with fewer than \"x thousand miles\" (I forget the actual number) to still be sold as a new car with full factory warranty. I see a lot of original documentation included in the photo gallery but I don't see a copy of the original sales contract. If that were still in existence it should show the odometer reading at the time of sale and would probably prove or disprove the demonstrator theory. 3000 - 5000 miles = demonstrator. Less than 3000 miles = lot lump with a lot of test drives. By October the 1980 models would have been on the lot and remaining 79s would be steeply discounted. However, there were no 1980 Rancheros made. If a buyer wanted a Ranchero and he wanted a nicely optioned one, this is probably the only one available anywhere with a full factory warranty.
