They are so damned light, just on the verge of tinny, one has to be careful if you lean on them. My car came from Japan so it has A/C and P/S, the power steering is wonderful. The A/C has its work cut out; the 205 has a whole bunch of glass and in a non aircon car you will cook with the windows up. The interior plastic of 205s wasn't super high quality and you can expect the odd crack here and there, be VERY careful when removing interior bits for service. Plastic modified cyanoacrylate and filler material will become your friend. Depending on the year you may find the jack at the rear base of the driver's seat under the carpet although perhaps this was on A/C cars only, it took me weeks to find mine.\r\nI have a relationship with a British dealer who Fedexes me OEM parts, or he'll source aftermarket for me and send it on, (Trevor Stokes you are a fine fellow!). Truth is though is that the GTIs were quite reliable and generally just ran and ran, unless you pounded the living piss out of them. If you are a French car enthusiast I very much doubt you'll regret buying a 205. My only caution is that the ride quality is not French but it's more than acceptable. However, there are some places which normally show surface rust, mostly due to the bodywork flexing and the factory 'sealant' cracking after 20+ years (water ingress). If timely addressed, these known spots are a piece of cake to take care of. If neglected a lot, they can rot at somewhat 'dangerous places', but still possible to remedy. Clean examples are usually very solid and long-lasting in terms of 'rust prospects'. Much depends on type of usage - if driven in rainy days, no 205 will last too long. They all leak (there's a myth that only the sunroof-equipped examples leak... and that's utter BS : the typically leaky places are side windows (all), rear hatch seal, antenna sealant, and often windscreen (due to body flex). No matter how well restored, they'll start leaking again after a certain period again. My first car was a late model silver 1.9 GTI w/ the servo, or PAS rack as some would say :-) it was SO good, especially the steering was outstanding - mine was lowered just a bit which only helped. Later also had the 1.6 (great engine, car even more nimble and insisting even more to be driven to the fullest) and also 1300 Rallye. That's arguably the best of them all in many ways, but each flavour & spec. of 'sports 205' is in fact truly great. Wish I still had them all & brings back a lot of fond memories. It was LHD, though. Great cars to have over here, but be prepared for the \"is that a Rabbit?\" question every time you fill it up. Loved LOVED that car! \n\nRHD over here isn't too too bad. I have a 1960 RHD Mini Cooper (replica of Makinen's 1965 rally car) and I drive at around no problem at all. Even on the freeway at 80mph (nope. not kidding, GPS speedo and lots more oomph where that came from) it's easy enough to maneuver. \n\nMy car was registered in Montana also. Simply because it's easier (and possible) to register a car like that. It's not a money saving exercise by the way. Most car guys that do that MO thing is because they can't register their cool cars here in CA. Why should we suffer?? Haha. Insurance, also stated by the seller, is a breeze. I had a policy with a classic car insurance company for my Peugeot and my Lancia Delta. Wasn't expensive at all.\n\nI'm right close to this car... I might be a bidder!
