The plastic trim holding in the seatbelt on the side of the driver's seat is very difficult to replace; the work-around is to simply get a clamp or home-made loop to bridge the gap and hold the two pieces together -- there are some great DIY solutions to that. As for corrosion, only the surface salting for non-painted metal is present, but not in any concerning form. I enjoy it quite a bit. Z3s came in so many great colors, it's hard to pick a fav, but this one ranks up there for me.\n\nHeated sports are awesome. You want those, if you are a bit taller (I'm 6,0\"), they sit you just a bit lower than the stock seats and the windscreen doesn't block your view. For me, these are a must. I don't know why anyone would order a Z3 without heated seats - they absolutely extend the top-down temperature range into the mid-40s. Tan stays cooler in the sun with the top down than black. \n\nThe m44 is a great engine. I have one in my 318ti. Loves to rev, engaging, yet fairly economical (I get like 27 in spirited mixed driving). It's also a robust engine if taken care of, 200k+ miles without opening the engine is common. \n\nSo why wouldn't you want to buy this? \n\nThe 1.9s have slightly narrower rear fenders than their 6-cylinder brethren. Maybe you like the look, maybe you want the wider rear end. Also, the 1.9s also don't come with a Limited Slip rear differential - all the six cylinders do. You can go inexpensive for $400-$500 for a replacement top with an integrated window DIY or plus install price approx 1K at a local shop. You can also still get OEM replacements with replaceable windows for around $2000 DIY or another approx 1K for install. The inexpensive tops will do the job, but they will look like a $500 top compared with the look/quality/feel of an OEM replacement and you will need to do a whole top replacement any time the window needs replacement. With the OEM the window zips out. As for ease of job, I'd rate it above a beginner DIY more intermediate/advanced. I always have my drop tops professionally done. Look up z3 soft top replacement on U tube there are lots of videos to help. Seriously no big deal at all requires no special tools. I watched the Youtube videos and even pulled a complete top assembly out of the junkyard. I've done a lot of stuff on BMWs from clutch jobs to suspension/bushing work to headliner replacement, but baulked on doing the top myself. It was a combination of lack of time, and I figured this was something I would hopefully never do again, so learning the skill just wasn't worth it. Plus, as @collectclassics mentioned, the risk of screwing it up or it not being installed to my wife's standard's was not worth the risk. I paid $1k for labor (and you can probably tell I'm a bit ashamed about this!)\n\nI agree with @Lovedrivinfast that an aftermarket top is the way to go. I got a GAHH Twilfast II soft top and new straps ($800) and the look and feel is OEM. The only difference is the window doesn't zip out - it is sewn in. \n\nWhat's more - when I priced OEM tops, the only color you could get was black and was $4k for the top alone. \n\nI usually only use OEM parts, but going aftermarket here is a no-brainer in my opinion. And if you don't want black, it's the only choice. All done - it was $1800 (ouch), or about twice a set of good tires.\n\n@Dtheobald - congrats on a great car. Those that follow my comments know I am a 100% bone stock collector. I bought an extra OEM top for 2K but that was before Covid... There are many things I'll DIY but a new top install will never be one of them for reasons stated. Now that you've replaced your cloth, I would just caution to ALWAYS leave the top up when not in use.
