The B16 engine had three main bearings vs five mains in the B18 that replaced it. Such an easy car to work on it was designed to be simple and robust. The blocks and trannies were bulletproof. A little English in nature though as needing valve jobs was a common condition. For a Scandinavian born car the heaters were not so efficient. Smith's heaters were far more efficient than OEM Volvo designed heaters. Best package was a PV544 with the B18 and the P1800 B18 engine hop up kit, fatter tires mounted on Chrysler rims and stiffer Konis. Brakes were typical of what was available, not great but adequate. Volvo had a great list of OEM accessories for this car and I offered just about every one if them. Whomever gets this one will enjoy a bit of \"time traveling\" in style. This did away with the long gearshift lever and I thought it was pretty cool at the time. In order to install the extension we had to cut away some of the transmission tunnel. I was in Mississippi at the time so didn't have to worry about really cold weather. Traded it even for a '61 TR3. I wish I had kept the PV544. It never fails to put a grin on my face when driving it. There's something special about the way it handles. Light weight, very precise suspension (very little rubber in the front suspension, mostly metal bushings with no slop). Mine has about 165 HP now (modified B20) and an OD M41 transmission. ANd braking and handling improvements too.
