The GM V8 327 engine and 5 speed transmission really take it to the next level. Top to bottom both mechanically and cosmetically, it\u2019s ready for another 60 years of life!\r\n\r\nThis Jeep drives nice and tight (I have never driven a CJ that is as dialed in as this one). The brakes a strong and smooth. The engine starts on the first turn with no smoke or drama. No leaks or issues anywhere. The transmission and clutch are very \u201cmodern feeling\u201d (smooth, tight etc)\r\n\r\nOf course the highlights\u2028 1. Nut and bolt restoration\r\n2. Chevrolet 327 V8\r\n3. Borg Warner 5 speed transmission \r\n4. Modern Digital Gauges\r\n5. Full Laredo package (chrome, graphics etc). Love that period look! \r\n6. Modern stereo\r\n7. All the Laredo interior is gone. \r\n But attention to detail is pretty \ud83d\udc4d good. Actually some quality and not a basket case. Very well represents its self. This color in a LAREDO is sorta rare. Not to many out there. I have a one owner 100% factory original loaded rust free 85 Laredo this color. This Jeep will make some one a great Jeep! Really if you wanna keep the Chevy, just replace transmission to the T176, if gears are 2.73s, definitely work regearing or swap axles to 3.31s, 3.73s. Had model 20 T-Case, 44rear 30 front and was 3.73 posi rear. Jeep was rusted so we parted it out. When pulling everything if I recall the axles was same or close to a CJ7 wide Trac. Maybe who built this Jeep maybe also new about this? If so this is nice set up. Gotta run great! Still be vary cautious with these weak 5spd transmissions. This reminded me of a great pointed out piece information. Find a old factory V8 automatic Commando for parts. When building a CJ you could have a choice of AMC V8 or Chevy V8, gets you GM 400 automatic transmission and Dana20 transfer case factory set up. Add that 44 rear in there....be heck of a set. Heavy Duty automatic but not Q-Trac......part time. This would not work with Q-trac rear..they are offset. It is not bulletproof but can survive behind a V8 if the driver refrains from racing and hard use. I would avoid using 5th gear.....it's small and not up to the task.
