So for my circumstances, I'd need to have this fixed to be able to enjoy the car.\r\n\r\nIn my experience, Fords have the A/C compressor mounted at the \"front\" of the engine and are belt driven. Unfortunately for a mid engine car, this puts all this bit of kit under the seats, so it's not very \"inspectable\" without pulling the engine.\r\n\r\nI'm also leery about why the A/C and heat were disconnected. I've heard of A/C disconnects due to either the A/C compressor not working and the owner not wanting to fix it, but also due to the owner not needing A/C and not wanting the HP drain on the engine. I have never heard of a decent reason why an owner would have the heat disconnected. \r\n\r\nFinally, the parking brake disconnect seems really odd. The only thing that comes to mind is that a previous owner did a brake system \"upgrade\" and had some kind of an issue with the parking brake aspect. Plus they probably lived somewhere really, really flat.\r\n\r\nSo with all that said - I know I'm asking a big favor here - do you have any words of advice? The compressor is belt-driven and on the front of the engine, accessible via the hatch in the firewall that's used to service the V-belt drive for the water pump and alternator as well as the compressor. IIRC, it's a piston York-type compressor as shipped originally, though many of those have since been replaced with swashplate-types that are smaller and smoother. Aside from needing seals of the correct material to handle R134a, the Yorks are workhorses and easily serviced/rebuilt and generally reliable.\r\n\r\nThe condenser is located at the rear of the trunk with its own fan, and the receiver/dryer is located alongside it. Lines route up to the HVAC box under the instrument panel, and it's those lines (or the evaporator in the HVAC box) that are tricky to replace. I believe the heater lines run along with the radiator tubing up the center tunnel.\r\n\r\nMore than likely, something happened inside the HVAC box under the IP to cause the \"decommissioning\" of the heater and AC. It may require rolling the IP to access that box and the bits inside (heater core, AC evaporator, and various flaps and doors), but aside from the hose/line routings and the lovely vintage Italian electrics, it's stone conventional to service.\r\n\r\nDepending on the exact cause of the \"decommissioning\", of course, I wouldn't think it would take too horribly much to get both into working order. As for the AC, I don't drive the car on miserably hot days, and on nice days prefer open windows to feel the sounds of speed and freedom. My AC parts are packed in a box, but will likely require to be replaced if AC is to to be installed again. The total replacement cost, maybe $500, is not enough to make a difference regarding the value of this car.
