When I purchased it, Max thought it was all original - but I don't recall anything further about its lineage. It's has always run well, although I lost the air in the front tire over the winter and fixed that. The large 9+ gallon gas tank, solo seat with rack, no side panels etc meant it was to ride anywhere and with minimal drama. I had the forks gone through, an Ohlins rear shock upgrade eventually and apart from very regular maintenance it never missed a beat. I would much rather own this R80G/S than any complicated computerized modern BMW twin if I were to venture off the beaten path. On height, I am 5'6 with 29\" inseam so it was a tip toe affair but who cares once your feet are on the pegs, in fact for my size I found the riding position to be all day comfortable. Also Gaston Rahier was 5'3\" tall and his BMW Paris Dakar winning R80 was miles taller than these standard R80G/S. I bought it for my wife to accompany me on my larger r100g/s, she rode it sparingly then soon developed a medical condition so she stopped riding. I\u2019ve ridden it a bit and can say that it feels a bit small for me, being 6\u2019-1\u201d and lanky. But it\u2019s a very nimble machine, great for in-town riding. She\u2019s 5\u2019-10\u201d, so I put a PD solo seat (and rear rack) on it, she could then touch the ground with the balls of her feet, which is important for street riding. The stock seat like on this one was about an inch too tall for her. If you\u2019re racing across the desert, then that\u2019s not a concern, but for street riding you want to be able to stop and not have to dump the bike! \ud83d\ude06\n\nI must say that it\u2019s an extremely smooth running engine when in proper tune, like most airheads. Parts are still very easy to get and it\u2019s an extremely simple bike to work on. Not that we\u2019ve had to do anything to ours other than normal maintenance.
