Welcome to our Indigo-perleffect (blau) RS2 auction. I\u2019m excited to be able to share a bit of the story behind this beautiful RS2 with you. \n\nQuattroSport is a passion project for Collin and me. Call us crazy, but we spend our spare time scouring for great examples of iconic VAG cars, getting them into shape and passing them on into the enthusiast community. This RS2 being one of them.\n\nI came across this example while scouring the internet in Europe and I saw a posting of a single-owner blue RS2 (my favorite Audi color) and reached out. I\u2019m a big one for buying the owner, and I was very pleased to find the owner of this one was an elderly gentleman from Spain (note \u2013 no salt) who had owned and treasured the car all his life. He couldn\u2019t speak English, but Google translate is pretty good these days, and my wife is Spanish, so we were able to communicate pretty well. It turns out he was selling because the laws in Spain made it prohibitive for him to drive the car, and in his advanced age, he wanted to pass his pride and joy on to someone who appreciated what it was. Needless to say, I was enthusiastic.\n\nCut a long story short, after hours of work to convince him I wasn\u2019t a scam artist, and arranging for a contact from Italy to visit and inspect the car in person, I was able to reach an agreement and acquire the car. It was in great mechanical shape and showed negligible corrosion but it had been a daily driver, so showed normal city-rash. So we decided to send it to Gianmarco from Vintage is Better in Rome, who had inspected the car for us and has restored a number of auto classics so he could get it into the type of shape we\u2019d be comfortable passing it on to an enthusiast in. \n\nAnd, the result is what you see here today. The body has been freshly repainted in the original color, so the paintwork is in great shape for the age. It\u2019s an iconic Audi, so there will be \u201cadventures\u201d along the way, but we\u2019ve been through the car as thoroughly as we can and addressed all meaningful items, and everything we would if it were our own. \n\nA few details to note: The car is presented as a model 1995 car, but it was registered as a 1994 model car as that was the year it was first registered as is the custom in Spain. You might also notice that the first owner owned it from 1997, which was the year he bought it and first registered it for use. You will notice the radio is an aftermarket one. Any successful buyer who is a traditionalist like me, I have an OEM (used) radio I could throw in for cost. \n\nI\u2019m sure more will emerge during the auction \u2013 it\u2019s going to be a fun week \u2013 but that\u2019s the story for now. Regular use is crucial for these young-timers, and this car is a prime example. The warm climate of Barcelona played a significant role in preserving the underbody, which remains in excellent condition without any signs of rust in critical areas. The factory underbody wax remains untouched. The car was entirely original, right down to the last screw.\r\n\r\nOn the flip side, the paint has shown some signs of aging, although the car has remained accident-free, except for a few scratches on the bumpers. Most of the panels still retain the factory paint. The interior has never been restored or cleaned in its lifetime and required some attention.\r\n\r\nNow, let's get to our work: after transporting the vehicle from Spain to Italy, we embarked on a conservative restoration process to preserve the car's originality as much as possible. Our goal was to restore the body to its factory condition while keeping the original interior intact.\r\n\r\nWe began by replacing the moldings on all four doors with new, genuine Audi moldings, and we also replaced the rear taillight (a rare NOS replacement) and the two front fog lights.\r\n\r\nNext, we moved to the painting phase. We completely removed the old paint, all the seals (including those on the side windows and the roof), and the glass to ensure uniform paint coverage once the restoration was completed. Up to this point, very few have repainted an RS2 by removing the upper seal on the side windows. This seal is a single piece that runs from the rear window to the windshield, and it is challenging to remove without damage. Consequently, most restored RS2s have a slight step in the paint along the upper body pillar, as they were painted without removing this seal.\r\n\r\nThe preparation for painting was meticulous, with the goal of minimizing the presence of filler. In fact, if you look at the car from any angle, it reflects light uniformly. We matched the original color using a state-of-the-art digital spectrometer and replicated the surface finish Audi applied to vehicles fresh off the production line. This finish was faithfully reproduced thanks to the original paint that was on the car before the restoration.\r\n\r\nFinally, the car was taken to a detailer for a complete interior recovery and a full body detailing. This detailer is among the best in the market, having attended various masterclasses at SwissVax, the world's top detailing brand. They used the best products available to restore the interior while preserving the original leather and to give the body a show-quality shine. We managed to restore both the Alcantara and leather on the seats and doors entirely, without replacing any part, so the car now boasts its entirely original interior.\r\n\r\nI'll conclude with the mechanical work, which was carried out at Pole Position, a workshop specializing in sports cars from the 1960s to the 2000s. In the past, we've restored the mechanics of Ferrari, Lancia, Maserati, Porsche, Renault Sport, and Alpine. In this case, the car was in good mechanical condition, but we restored the clutch, turbo, suspension, brakes, and wheels. The car now delivers its original power and handles superbly. If I remember correctly, all 1994 and earlier cars came with the regular (smaller) brakes from the Porsche 968. There was no option for a factory upgrade. I guess there was some kind of dealer upgrade later on.\r\n\r\nFor 1995, or sometime during the later 1995 RS2 model year, Audi or well Porsche, fitted the larger (322mm) brakes from the 996, turbo I believe. I am not sure which month that was.\r\n\r\nI ordered a RS2 in spring of 1995 at a dealership in Germany. At first, the sales guy told me it\u2019s already sold out. He called a day later and told me that Audi is going to produce a couple more as there was still interest in the car. So I checked the boxes and ordered the next day. I remember there was a checkbox \u201cDachreling delete\u201d or \u201croof rack delete\u201d for Deutsch Marks 0.- which I checked. Must be a very rare RS2 today, as I have never seen one without rack, except mine.\r\n\r\nHow did it ride? Stiff in slower traffic, like riding a goat. Under 3000 rpm was nothing, it felt like 50hp. Above 3000 rpm all hell broke loose, in 1995 terms. Nothing special today, but back in 1995 this was supercar territory. I loved that car, it was a pure and raw driving experience. It pulled harder than my 964.
