What a magnificent motorcar. When production ended in late 1973, there were a handful of the GT6 Mk III produced, shipped and delivered to a group of very special British motorcar enthusiast of MG, Triumph and Jaguar collectors. Working for the British Leyland distributor for cars and parts in the Midwest, these final models came through the Port of New Orleans and were delivered to the distribution facility in Saint Louis County, MO for delivery to their new owners. These motorcars were not offered by or delivered to any of the British Leyland new car retail dealerships. Unsure what model year they were assigned (1973 or 1974) but, they were received 80% (14 units) painted black and 20% (4 units) painted white, with all interiors fitted in black cloth.\r\nAs in the final production year of the GT6 Mk III, the 1974 Jaguar Series III XKE Roadster received the same send off. Except these final motorcars were delivered in black w/black leather only. To our knowledge, the same group of enthusiast were offered and accepted deliver of these cars too. None were delivered to or offered by any of the British Leyland new car retail dealerships.\r\nUnlike its British Leyland final production year predecessors, the Triumph TR6's final production year (1976) wasn't offered in the same manner as the GT6 Mk III and the Series III XKE roadster. In November a 2018. I had to replace a lot of the same body panels and repair the front of the roof above the windshield. This is a great color. Also the rear hatch is high on the passenger rear edge . Can it be adjusted? One of my favorite cars I\u2019ve ever owned. I was in college when I bought it used from a dealer in Richmond, CA in 1976. It was fast, good looking and handled well. All of a sudden, girls who never gave me the time of day wanted to talk and get rides! My mini E-Type! I drove my GT6 to my summer job in Lewiston, Idaho and slept in the hatchback area overnight midway in my drive\u2026.a bit cramped but I was a poor college kid so saved money on a hotel. Midway through the summer the gearshift lever snapped in half and was able to get a local shop to weld it back together by some miracle. Toward the end of summer, the engine started to miss. There was a repair shop in Clarkston, WA that had a few MG\u2019s in front, so took it to them. Ends up I had a cracked piston. They rebuilt the motor but messed up my carburetors such that the engine cut out when I went around corners! Got the car back home by some miracle at the end of summer, using up much of my summer earnings for the repairs and took the GT6 to a local and respected British car mechanic in San Rafael, CA to sort things out. I eventually sold the car as I could not afford any more repairs eating away at my college funds, but I still miss that car. The auction car as a Series IIi is a beauty and nice to see one so well restored by someone with the expertise to do so. It is a beauty.
