When I started working at a Toyota dealership as a salesman in 1999, I kept trying to buy it from the old dealership owner. He shot me down over and over again. He'd had it since 1972 when he got it from the original owner with 40k miles and kept it in storage ever since. In 2004, Toyota paid to have it repainted the factory red and spiffed up and shipped to Hawaii to display for the North American Toyota dealership meeting. It was the lowest mileage, most original one they could find in the country. When it came back, it went back into storage. The dealership owner passed away a few years back and it was sold to a wholesaler who ended up listing it for sale. This was 21 years after I first saw it and when I saw it hit Craigslist, I had to have it. I own my own Toyota dealership now and it's on the showroom floor on display. Rated at 90 Horsepower with a standard trans. they would push right along. The speedometer showed a top end of 90 MPH with 5.60-13 tires but when you put 7.25s on the back you got between 100 and 105! My Corona was my late wife\u2019s first car. Her father bought it for her new in March of \u201968. 3 speed column shifter and a bench seat. One of the last built that way. She knew how to drive a stick before I knew how to drive! The second time I was in the car she top ended a \u201968 Skylark 350 2BBL! I was in love! With her AND the car! In 1977 She traded the car on a new Subaru and I acquired it. Then at about 125,000 miles it burned #1 piston and it\u2019s been sitting ever since. One night I blew a worked Beetle into the weeds with it! You know the one, wheels and tires, a pipe and a Hurst sticker! When I banged second we just walked away!
