And it was parked next to a red one and a yellow one. I was there to do a photo shoot of a plain-Jane stainless example. \nI've got to say that 20 year old me felt pretty darn lucky to drive a brand new DeLorean off the lot - even if I did have to give it back about a hour later. \nSomehow Brooks Biddle Chevrolet managed to sell lots of these. As an early example (the 728th built) it will not have many of the 3,000+ running production changes made throughout the course of production - the most critical ones can be retrofitted if desired.\n\nThe car will need headliners, seat covers, pedal pads, glove box catch, cargo net, as well as some other interior trim tidy-up and parts. Torn inner door seals will want to be addressed, many times this comes down to door adjustment, especially on early cars like this one - thought the doors fit well, something is rubbing and tearing the seals. Perhaps can be addressed when the headliners are replaced. The bent part by the exhaust could likely be straightened or easily replaced, but the holes for a license plate bracket in the front fascia are a bummer, at least if you live in a state that doesn't require a front plate.\n\nI'd plan on a complete set of hoses and likely a radiator before any extended summer driving - water pump ha been replaced with an aftermarket unit so not necessarily a problem unless it presents otherwise after some use. An A/C service along with a good look at the fuse box and relay compartment will also be a must. Braided stainless fuel lines would be inexpensive insurance against a potentially catastrophic engine fire.\n\nFrom the video, this one happens to have a fair amount of imperfections in the paint that are typical of a 37 year old paint job - IMO, they do detract from the curb appeal of the car. For me, the biggest problem with a painted DeLorean is the fact that most people expect them to be stainless, limiting a resale to someone who not only wants a DeLorean, but someone from that potential pool of buyers who not only wants a painted one, but one that happens to be painted in this color scheme. In all instances I have witnessed, the stainless finish is considerably abraded - sometimes with a DA sander - to provide a good surface for primer adhesion. So figure on stripping, then re-grain, and re-painting the bumper covers and rear sunshade. You'll get the best results by removing all the trim, lights, exterior mirrors, quarter panel vents, bumper covers, etc and should probably plan on replacing the outer door weatherstripping, as it will probably tear when removed. Since the door jambs have been painted, to do it properly, you'll want to remove all the interior door trim and door headliners. I wasn't even sure you'd see the comment with the auction being so old. \r\nMy main question would be about where and when you saw the car in black and gold? I applied to DMC for a 'birth certificate' with the first owner's name on. He is sadly now passed away but I'm in contact with his family who sent me a couple of photos of the car. Strangely it was unpainted \ud83e\udd14 I'm now wondering what the story is with the paint scheme?
