When the early-mid1970s came along, those \"Kodacolor\" (as I call them) bright hues of the '60 became, you know, square, man. Earth tones ruled the day: browns, golds, muted greens, and more distinctive ones like the color seen here. \n\nAs you note, browns were still hanging around in the early 1980s. My father got a company car in 1983, a Cadillac Sedan de Ville, brown with a brown padded vinyl top and brown leather interior. It looked like something a UPS executive would drive! I'd love to have an '85 Chevy Monte Carlo SS, but seemingly half the ones that survive today are silver with a burgundy interior. Yes - the stuff did go up in price for a while but because so many people switched to R-134a, but primarily because so many of those R12 cars are no longer even on the road - there are just too few vehicles left out there that can even use those little 'suicide cans'. So the pricing has dropped on the usual auction website, significantly. I LOVE it. I have 8 other cars, all smaller or substantially smaller, even the trucks! I've had it since 2017, we picked it up from a Woodinville, WA Lincoln hoarder who had too many cars to properly take care of it. The odo definitely rolled over and the body, paint and engine show it. Rough, nothing like the pristine example before us today that is truly like new. So after giving ours a proper tune, replacing most of the braking system, shocks, tires, other wear items, Nessie has been ultra reliable. These were very well built cars and it shows years later. \r\nNessie has taken us (successfully, with few issues) on two Lemons Rallies, the 2nd being route 66 where we drove from Seattle to Chicago, then all the way down Route 66 to Santa Monica and then back to Seattle, well over 6000 miles in two weeks. We averaged just over 11 mpg! Why am I telling you this? \r\nTo whoever wins this auction today: You will be the proud owner of one of the coolest cars ever made. You don't drive these, you pilot them and you will absolutely love doing it - it's big and smooth, gets a lot of attention, makes you feel like a king! I've watch other Mark V's come and go, this is definitely one of the nicest, most pristinely kept example I've ever seen here or on other sites. \r\nNotes: You can simply recharge the AC, we did with R12 and it's been working great since 2017. Another issue, and this car won't have this problem because of the like-new condition, but many systems run on engine vacuum, including the HVAC. We've been unable to find a leak in the HVAC which makes the vent doors open under engine load, which lets heat pour into the cabin. We call it \"uphill heat.\" It's kind of a fun thing now. Heck, everything is fun on this car. The commanding horn, the Cartier clock, the roar of the engine at startup and burble of the exhaust at low idle. The way the heavy doors close like a vault door. The automatic release of the brake pedal when you move the trans out of park. The slow roll of the body into a curve, once you get the hang of driving, er I mean piloting it you'll love it. I put an edelbrock rpm intake on it along with an 800 electric edelbrock carb new valve train for the heads, headers with 3 inch primaries 4 row radiator aluminum edelbrock waterpump flex fan and some 1 chamber Flowmasters. The car was 2 tire burner with ease to say the least, all power everything along with the auto lights on/off I felt cool walking from the car and 10 seconds later the head lamps close to cool. I'd like to chime in on the AC I had mine gone completely through I was doing the small fixes and 1 year decided to spend the money to get it fixed correctly. I spent 1800.00 in 04 and never had to touch it again. It retained the R12 refrigerate, any HVAC tech can get R12 and any reputable AC can get the ac working just gotta pay for it.
